Wild Moonlight

Lily's POV

I was walking back to the castle with Sev. I couldn't believe Alynna was cheating on Remus. I can't believe Mariah knew and didn't tell him, but i know she had her reasons. I saw James ahead of us and i called out to him about to ask if Mariah was okay. He quickly shushed me, and i noticed that he was carrying Mariah. It was the first time James ever shushed me. He was usually the one yelling after me. I noticed a few bruises forming on his face, and blood dripping from his hand where it looked like he had been bit by an animal. "What happened?" I asked quietly brushing my finger tips over them.

"Did i ever tell you how i met Mariah? When we were four my parents took me to her house for a cookout. She was so little. I promised her parents i would look after and protect her. Two years later Sir Damocles went to their house because he was really worried. He was Mariah's mum's best friend. She called him every day, and she hadn't called in a week. He found Meelah and Peter lying on the floor... they had been dead for at least a week. He found Mariah and Chrystal in the closet. Lily... Marlee saw her parents die. She still won't talk about it. Chrys said she didn't see it. She said Marlee held her the whole time. For a week they hid in that closet afraid that the person who killed their parents would come back, and finish them off. For almost a year she refuse to talk to anyone. Then Remus came. He was about as broken as her, but he had physical scars. He saw his mum die right in front of him, but he was attacked too. He would have been dead if his dad wouldn't have found him and took him to St. Mungos. Once Mariah met Moony she slowly began to get better." He explained. I had no clue they all knew each other that long. I know they met Sirius and Peter first year, so i guess i just assumed they all met first year.

"I had no idea." I whispered.

The rest of the walk back to Hogwarts was silent. Once we reached the castle Sirius took Marlee and demanded that James go up to the hospital wing. For the first time i actually thought of James as a great guy. But i would never tell him that.
