(Kagome POV)

I rested quietly on Inuyasha's back as he walked besides Miroku and Sango, who were on Kirara. The rain had lightened up so a slight drizzle was falling. Though Inuyasha still insisted in giving me his robe of the Fire-rat to cover my head.

Looking to my right I could clearly see the glow through the forest. It pulsed, basically calling to me. I wanted, no needed to go there but first I needed to see my Ame. I turned my head to the other direction and closed my eyes. The lingering feeling of the light pulsing throughout my body.

(Inuyasha POV)

I felt Kagome shift on my back. I lowered my head some and continued walking. It was a silent, awkward walk. No one said anything. Just the sound of the drizzling rain hitting the trees and our feet walking in puddles could be heard.

Soon enough we reached the village. Rin was outside collecting vegetables from the field. She gasped and ran straight towards us, "You're back!!" She smiled brightly.

I bent down as Kagome slowly got off. She smiled at Rin who hugged Kagome's legs. Rin scanned the group, "Where's...Akiro?..." She asked softly. Kagome bent down to Rin with a broken smile and just shook her head. Rin's eyes filled with tears as her and Kagome embrace in a sorrowful hug.

We made our way to Kaede's hut, where she had taken Ame. I walked in, "We're back..." I called out, my voice dull, the energy sucked out of me.

Kaede quickly peered up, "Inuyasha, everyone, ye have returned." Kagome walked over to Ame and gently picked him up.

"And Akiro? Did you not retrieve him." Kaede asked, examine our faces.

I leaned against the wall, "We were....too late Kaede.." I mumbled. Kaede lowered her head and nodded.

"I see...if ye would like...I just made breakfast." Kaede said. I turned to Kagome. She got up with a sleeping Ame cradled in her arms. "No thanks Kaede. I think I'd rather just rest for now." Kagome said.

Kaede nodded. We gave her our thanks, parted ways with Sango,Miroku, and Shippo, and made our way back to our hut.
"Kaede said she wanted to see you soon." I said to Kagome. Kagome nodded and sat down, cradling Ame in her hands.

I leaned against the wall and let my knees go limb as my body slowly slumped down. The room was silent which only made very painful event replay in my head. I stared at the wall as my lips began to quiver. "Kagome..." my voice cracked.

(Kagome POV)

I stared at Ame, looking at his sleeping face. He looked so peaceful. Despite the fact that he was Akiro's twin, he had a whole different aura to him. I lifted my head at the sound of Inuyasha's voice.

My eyes widened at the sight in front of me. "Inuyasha.." he sat there, a hand raised over his eyes as tears flowed down his cheeks and quickly dropped one after another on to the wooden floor.

I carefully placed Ame on the makeshift bed and quickly made my way to Inuyasha who was breaking down right in front of me.

"I'm sorry!" He blurted out, the tears rushing out faster. "I'm sorry! If I was stronger! If I had gotten there quicker! Akiro....Akiro would still be alive!!" He yelled, his voice broken. It hurt to hear.

I quickly pulled his head into my chest and embrace him. "Inuyasha! Stop! It wasn't your fault!....Please...Please don't say that..." I said softly, tears filling my eyes.

Seeing Inuyasha, someone who never cries, who never shows his emotions, break down so terribly, is just so dreadful to watch and hear. Inuyasha grabbed on to my kimono as I heard the soft whimpers that he refused to yell out.

I gently stroked his head till I felt his grip on my clothes loosen. I gently pulled back and looked at his red puffy face. I placed my hands on his cheeks, "Inuyasha...it wasn't your fault. What happened to Akiro was no ones fault. I wish it hadn't turned out this way either....but....I don't know." I said softly, looking to the side.

Inuyasha stared at me before pressing his forehead against mine. He stayed silent and just sniffled occasionally. I knew this was really hard for Inuyasha. He wasn't good at dealing with his pain.

Within minutes Ame stared letting out whimpers. I moved back and went over to him. I couldn't help but smile seeing our baby's cheeks flush pink as he kicked through his blankets. His whimpers grew louder till he started to cry.

I gently picked him up and rocked him, "Shhh, it's ok. Mommies finally here." I kissed the baby's forehead. "Oh! You must be hungry." I said, knowing that Ame hadn't ever gotten breast milk. I gently pulled down my sleeve and did what my body had been preparing for the past 9 months.

Inuyasha quietly shifted over, "D-Didn't actually think you would do that." He said, a tired but curious look on his face.

I blushed some and watched Ame drink, "Of course I would. I mean...I have to. Though I'm not gonna lie and say it doesn't feel weird." I nervously giggled. Inuyasha rested his head on my shoulder.

~Next Day: Sundown~

After some time and some rest we finally gathered the strength to go see Kaede again. Of course we hadn't finally moved on from everything, just even looking at Ame brings me back to everything. Though it's hard to explain how I feel right now. All I know is that I can't keep crying forever.

I need be strong like my mother had always raised me to be.

We made our way back to Kaede, the sun was just setting. I slowly peeked over to the forest and took a glance at the light that kept calling to me.

Inuyasha and I walked in, greeting Kaede. "I'm glad ye both decided to come. I won't mention what happened." Kade started, "The reason I called ye over here, Kagome, was to ask you about something important."

I stared at her, "Is it bad?" I asked, not ready to deal with anything else.

She handed us a cup of tea, "I would imagine it to be quite the opposite. Have you notice the light in the forest?" Kaede asked, glancing up at me.

I stared at her a bit surprised, "Y-Yes...it's been catching my attention every time I go outside. Though I don't know what it is." I said, trying to come up with a reasonable solution.

Kaede looked at me, "Ye don't know what it is. Child...the light is coming from the bone eaters well."

My eyes went wide, my chest tightening. "The bone eaters well? What do you mean Kaede?" Inuyasha asked, though I took the advantage to answer that for them.

"It's working...that's what it is.." I whisper and quickly pulled up Akiro's heart from a necklace I had attached it to. "Akiro-...it's because of Akiro!" My eyes filled with tears as I couldn't help but feel a bit happy, perhaps a little excited too.

We stood at the edge of the well, crickets playing their nightly song, fireflies coming out to light up our path. Sango, Miroku, and Shippo stood by to see us off.

I looked over at Inuyasha, who cradled Ame in his arms, before turning to everyone, "Well we're off." I said. Shippo nodded in excitement.

"Wish us luck." Inuyasha said, "We'll definitely come back." He gave once last grin before wrapping an arm around my waist and jumping into the well.

I stared wide eyes as that familiar glow surrounded us. I looked up and saw the rush of stars as they connected us back to my time. Our feet gently landed on the soil.

The sound of cars driving by in the distance. The busy streets. I looked up to see a roof top. All these things that I had missed, that I had longed for. Inuyasha jumped out, holding both Ame and I close to him. We walked out and there it was. The shrine that I had spent growing up.

My jaw was dropped in disbelief, I really am back home.
