Spring

I once said a loong time ago that I would publish the poem I did for my school's poetry contest. So here it is...the story behind it, you already know.

Before They Could Spring

This is the story of a boy and a girl

who loved each other with a love that was more than merely love...

It was magical, a total bliss, the purest love you've ever seen...

but tragedy befell before they could even spring.

Their mutual affinity was solely product of their feelings,

those they had the power to withhold and share between them only...

They knew the path they had taken, yet they never thought around,

what could happen in the future, for the present was the now.

Their feelings grew more attached with each passing day,

they were falling fast and hard, from awkward hugs to holding hands,

from racing pulse to shaky breaths, until they could no longer feel this way,

so on a rainy, thundersome day, they both confessed.

He spoke and chattered and wittered and prattled,

expressing himself with so much passion that the girl found herself

smiling all along, listening through words, that for her were destined.

It was then her turn, and she was ready...she felt ready...

to take that step, to cave in, to let their love finally begin...

but she didn't.

Because her mind took her to the place she most dreaded,

to the dark and sullen part of her soul,

whispering, mumbling, she couldn't help thinking,

all that could go wrong, all that could be sinking.

She had never in her life felt so much for a boy, and

she knew it was the mere beginning of upcoming milestones,

yet she couldn't bring herself to say yes,

and broke the boy's heart,

shattering what they both had.

It was painful...and they just couldn't go on pretending nothing went on...

and this is what tragedy they couldn't abide.

The girl, she was afraid...

She thought it was simpler, she thought it was plain,

and maybe it was, but she never knew for she never took the chance,

until she realized something, but it was now too late.

She missed the way he called her love, the way he said her name,

She longed for the feeling of skin against skin, the feeling of warmth

Of his embrace.

She craved for a signal, a move or intake, but none of this came again,

for the boy no longer felt love towards her, he had given it all at a stake.

She couldn't fall out of love...

whilst he wished every night to the stars to forget all the memories

he had with her...he wished they never met, he wished he'd never seen her...

and one day his wish was granted...

He forgot her...but she never did.

The spark of their love could no longer be,

it proved to be prompted to burst,

yet the girl never really moved on from her state,

he would still be her forevermore.

Heartless she felt, darkness she sensed,

but she still loves him more than desert loves rain.

This is the story of a boy and a girl

who loved each other with a love that was more than merely love...

It was magical, a total bliss, the purest love you've ever seen...

but tragedy befell before they could even spring.
