Chapter Seventeen

5 months later...

He grip his umbrella tighter as he jog his way to Cherry Blossoms Cafe. Medyo malayo ang napagparkingan niya and the rain is starting to pour heavily. Kaya naman mas lalo niyang binilisan ang pagtakbo.

Mabilis niyang tiniklop ang payong at nilagay sa gilid ng makapasok siya sa cafe. Pinagpag niya ang lab coat para maalis ang ilang patak ng ulan. Hindi pa tapos ang duty niya at kailangan niya pang bumalik ng hospital mamaya.

Dumiretso siya sa counter para mag-order. He settled with his usual seat which is near the glass wall. The rain is pouring hard now.

He's trying his best to stay awake as he took a sip of his coffee. He still needs to be awake til 11 am, magdamag na siyang nagduduty sa hospital. He look around the Cherry Blossoms Cafe, there are college students on the far end corner and some office workers who's probably taking some coffee break.

He must admit, he like the ambiance of the cafe. Or is it because it's her cafe? Asked that silly side of his brain.

He sighed. Over those months, hindi niya alam kung anong nangyari sa kanya. But he find himself visiting Key's unit rather than visiting Megan's grave.
He find himself discovering things about her instead of taking care of the pain Megan's death caused him.

Just what like his brother said, he's starting to live a life again.

And that's all thanks to...

His thoughts we're interrupted when his phone buzzed. He absentmindedly smiled when he saw his wallpaper. It's a picture of Key, smiling widely with her famous peace sign. It's one of the pictures displayed on Key's condo unit.

He opened the message Mara sent him,

Hey you brother! Dinner tonight on our parents house. Be there!

And her sister is getting fond with all those exclamation points again. Napailing siya. He look out the glass wall as he took a sip of his black coffee.

He look at his phone to check the time.

9:30 am

He still got 30 mins before his break ends. Mabuti na lang at ten minute drive lang ang cafe mula sa hospital.

Tumitig siya sa muka ni Key na nasa screen ng kanyang cellphone. "You're taking your time sleeping huh? Wake up now, woman." Pagkausap niya sa picture nito.

After taking a couple of sips from his coffee he stood up to take his leave. He grab his coffee, good thing he had it on take out.

He stood still when he notice a familiar face on the far end of where he's standing.

Is he seeing what he's seeing?

Right across the room is Key, looking sophisticated on her pastel pink jacket while mixing a cup of coffee. [see media]

Her hair grew a bit because it reach past her shoulders now unlike the last time he saw her in the US. She look completely different. She look like a changed woman, gone is the bubbly and energetic aura of her.

Marahan siyang naglakad palapit sa dalaga.

He watched as she sophisticatedly took a sip of the coffee from the cup.

He cleared his throat when he reached near her to get her attention.

She took her time looking at his direction. She stared at him like she is seeing him for the first time.

"Mind if I sit?" He asked.

She just look back to her coffee.

He took that as a yes and took a seat infront of her. Tinitigan niya ito ng ilang segundo. "Hi."
