(Lexi's POV)

After we took Stefan home, Sam was in the midst of driving me back to the school to get my car when Brooke called me.

"Hey, Brooke, everything okay?"

"Are you with Sam?" It sounds like she's been crying.

"Yeah. Are you crying?"

"Can you guys come over?"

"For sure, we'll be there in 10." I hung up and frowned as I looked at Sam.

"What?" Sam asked me, glancing at me briefly.

"Turn around, we have to go to Brooke's. She wants to talk to us. She's crying."

Brooke and I have never been emotionally close. When it comes to work and business, we are close. But when it comes to relationships or feelings, we both usually turn to Sam for that type of guidance.

It's a little strange to me that she called me first opposed to Sam.

It must be a big deal.

In less than 10 minutes, we were outside of Brooke's house that was only two blocks away from our house.

Being family, we decided a long time ago knocking was unnecessary. Under most circumstances, anyway. Like if we were going to show up uninvited, we'd be knocking on that door until either Brooke or Nick answered it fully clothed. We did not want to walk in on funny business.

"Brooke?" Sam called through the house.

"Up here!" She replied back, coming from upstairs. We jogged up the stairs - I did pretty well for being in my 5 inch stiletto heels.

Brooke was sitting in the room that her and Nick share with a tear stained face, but Nick wasn't here.

"What's up, Brookie?" Sam said softly, kneeling down beside her.

I sat down next to her, taking notice to the pregnancy test laying between us with two lines on it, confirming a pregnancy. Knowing this was the cause of her tears, I handed the test over to Sam.

Brooke is only 26 years old, nearly 27. Her and Nick got married roughly 2 years ago and she shared with Sam and I that they agreed to wait until she was at least 30 to have kids. She's only on her second year of owning and maintaining her own cosmetic company and brand, whereas Nick just took over his father's business that owns several hotels across the Midwest. He told Brooke he plans to expand their hotels even further across the country throughout the next couple of years. With both of them still building their names and working to achieve their dreams, they knew a kid was not to be in the plans yet.
Now they are pretty much 3 years ahead of schedule.

"Did you tell Nick?" Brooke nodded. "He didn't take it so well, did he?" She shook her head, no, and more tears started falling down her cheeks.

"We agreed, guys. We agreed that neither of us had the time for a kid. Now look what happened."

"This isn't your fault, Brooke." I reminded her pointedly. "Takes two to make a baby."

"How'd he react?"

"He was a lot calmer than I expected. All of our doors are still intact and none of the drywalls have holes, but he still walked out."

Nick's a good guy. He and Brooke have been together since their senior year of high school 10 years ago. I'm not justifying his reaction to be okay, but I know he will be back and that he will be here for Brooklyn 110%. That's who he is.

"I think you're forgetting the bigger picture of this," I looked at Brooklyn with a smile as she wiped away her tears. "You're carrying my niece or nephew in your belly, right now. So what if it's earlier than you planned? This baby belongs to you and the love of your life. Don't let the timing of it bring you down."
