(Lexi's POV)
Walking around LA this past week with Holly, I remembered exactly why I live in Chicago.
I hate the heat.
Given it's nearly December and the weather could be hotter, I am still no fan of this excessive heat when it's nearly December. December means cold weather.
Not 75 degrees.
"I'm so glad that this week is nearly over," I mumbled as we approached a cute little bakery and eatery diner. We spotted it earlier in the week, but weren't able to find the time to check it out until now.
Our flight departs tomorrow morning, but all of our meetings and business ordeals were taken care of earlier today. After doing an inspection of the LA Lexi's branch, we found ourselves here.
"Do you consider us friends, Lexi?" We were seated at the table for two that the waitress directed us to.
"Of course," I said without having to think it through for a second.
Holly is probably the only friend I've made since I graduated high school.
You could count Chad and Liam if you want, but I don't consider them friends anymore, so I wouldn't consider counting them.
"What's going on with you then? From friend to friend, not boss to employee."
I appreciate Holly and everything she does for my company and me. She was truly a genuine person. Ever since my first fashion week and Holly came to my rescue, I've hardly considered her as just another employee.
First off, she's my rock when it comes to anything related to this company. Second off, she's a good friend to me, going on to prove that fact right now.
"What do you mean?" I played dumb.
I've been pretty much dead all week, faking smiles and having little to no patience all throughout all of these meetings.
Pointless meetings, may I add.
If I could hire some to attend them, so that I wouldn't have to, I would. Unfortunately, as the CEO of Lexi's, I'm often left with no other option.
"I've been working for you for two years now. You're always so full of life and calm, but this week it's been different."
"It's the heat," I lied, instantly. Before she even had a chance to argue, and I knew she was going to because I'm a horrible liar, I let out a loud sigh. "That guy, the one in the picture that got leaked, Liam...we were dating for about a month..." I don't recall ever mentioning him to Holly one on one, but I never hid it from her either. "He slept with a friend of mine that I've known for most of my life."
My heart clenched at the thought. It does that every time I even think about Liam.
I cared about him. I may have even loved him. Or I may even love him, present tense. But it was too good to be true, apparently.
"I'm sorry, Lex," she frowned. "Did you talk to him about it, or anything? Maybe hear him out?"
I didn't.
I don't know why either.
Maybe I should've.
"I overheard him and Michelle talking at my friend's wedding shower. They were talking about how they need to keep the fact they slept together a secret. That's all I know."
Holly offered me a small smile and took my hand in hers, squeezing it. "I think you should talk to him. When you're ready, of course. There may be more to the story."
