(thirty) all of me

(Liam's POV)

I tapped the steering wheel impatiently while Ali ran inside her house to grab her phone that she somehow forgot.

The plan is to spend a couple hours at Shelby's so that all of my favorite girls can finally meet, then Ali and I have to catch our flight to Ohio for Marilyn's wedding tomorrow. Unfortunately, this was really the only day that worked with mine, Ali, and Shelby's busy schedules.

"Let's get this show on the road!" Ali exclaimed, throwing herself into the vehicle with her phone now in her hand.

I used Ali's backup camera on her beautiful BMW and reversed the car from her driveway, fully prepared for our small hour and a half road trip to Pontiac to introduce Shelby to my girlfriend.

I had a good feeling that Shelby and Rach would love Ali, because how could you not, but it still could hardly settle the nerves in the pit of my stomach.

Shelby and Rach, and their opinions, mean the world to me; I want them to love Ali almost as much as I do.

"Text Shelby and let her know we are about five minutes from her house," I gestured to my phone that sat untouched in the cupholder whilst I drove.

Ali picked up my phone and used her thumb to unlock it to text Shelby. She installed her thumb to the finger scan a couple of weeks ago while I was in the shower. I found out when I asked her to turn on a specific song in the car and she only had to use her thumb to unlock it.

Such a goof.

"I'm nervous," Ali admitted for the first time the whole car ride. I took my eyes off the road for a split second to send her a reassuring smile.

"They're going to love you," I promised her because, again, how could someone not?

"These two are so important in your lives... what if they don't like me?" I took my right hand of the steering wheel and grasped onto Ali's sweating palm.

"You have nothing to worry about," I pulled into Shelby's driveway of her small house that had such a homey feel to it.

The second the car was shifted into park, Rach came sprinting outside, full speed ahead. When I emerged from the car, she flung herself into my arms.

It's been a while since I've been able to stop by, I missed her just as much as she missed me.

Shelby was hot on her heels, chastising her for running outside without an adult, but stopped short to join mine and Rach's hug.

"I missed you, Liam," she said softly.

I really wish that Shelby and Rach didn't live so far from Chicago, but I could never ask them to move because this is their home. Just like they'd never ask me to move because they know that I couldn't leave Taylor or Ali behind.

Despite not being around in a while, I made sure to call Shelby a couple times a week and give her an earful about how much Ali means to me.

"You must be Lexi," Shelby grinned when she saw Ali standing to the side quietly.

"I am, you must be Shelby," Just as I could've guessed, Shelby took Ali's hand and pulled her into a tight bone crushing hug as a welcome to the family greeting.

Ali is a family-oriented girl just as much as Shelby is, so she melted right into the hug, probably squeezing her back just as tight.

"And this is my daughter, Rachael," Shelby motioned to the little girl I was still holding in my arms and was still clinging to me.
