Ah the weekend, a wonderful time to work on INTF while (B/F) does whatever she wants, sometimes being loud about it. You decided not to waste your breath asking if she'd quiet down, knowing even if she listened it wouldn't be long before her voice was bothering you once more.
Hearing a buzz from the phone you put on silent, you dragged it across the desk over to you to see what was up. Before the screen went black you managed to read the two words he sent.
MARK: Hey (Y/N)!
You considered responding, then thought about just leaving it there. But that felt rude so you responded.
YOU: Hello Mark.
You started typing on your laptop again, something you'd been doing so much lately the keys were starting to become smooth from the oils on your fingers. The mouse you used at home also had marks from where your hand rested on it throughout the day.
MARK: So I have a question...
You rose an eyebrow, watching your phone for him to finish his thought. When the screen was black for about a minute, you blew some hair out of your face and acknowledged him.
YOU: Yes?
His reply was much quicker, like he wrote the question but was waiting for your text before he sent it.
MARK: Do you want to go on that double date with Cosette and James?
You blinked, not suspecting that question at all. After your silence, Mark started spamming you with messages.
MARK: Did I sound too eager? I'm sorry
MARK: You can think about, I don't need an answer right now
MARK: We'd go as friends, not a couple
MARK: I heard what they were going to be doing and thought it sounded fun, so I wanted you to come too :)
You weren't too worried about him making a move on you, you hadn't known each other very long. However, you were curious as to what Cosette was planning.
MARK: ...(Y/N)?
YOU: My apologies, I was just surprised. What was Cosette planning?
His response was fast, like he was relieved you weren't giving him the silent treatment and you weren't mad, so he didn't want to waste your time waiting for him to say something.
MARK: She said the beach
Oh. You frowned, staring at the screen—you had unlocked it when he started spamming you—and tapped your (L/R) fingertips on the desk.
YOU: I have work to do, I don't know if I could.
MARK: Please (Y/N)! You deserve to have fun
MARK: Besides, your game will still be there when you get home :)
You thought over the pros and cons very carefully, making sure to leave not one detail out. On the plus, you would get a break and cool down—it was really hot outside, a temperature exceeding 90° Fahrenheit (32° Celsius). You'd also get away from (B/F), and goodness knows you wouldn't last much longer with her constant background chatter.
The cons had a lot to do with INTF and (B/F). (B/F) could do something stupid and either damage something of yours or hurt herself, so you were hesitant to leave her alone. She should be able to care for herself, but if she incapacitates herself she wouldn't be able to do anything. As for your game, something could happen while you're gone that could ruin your whole system, not that it was likely to happen. Precious time spent away doing other things was time wasted you could've used on INTF, and that didn't sit well with you.
