A thunk from downstairs made Mark look away from his screen towards the door to his recording room. He didn't understand what would've made the noise besides Chica, who must've knocked something over. He sighed and got up, making a mental note that he'd have to edit this out, and paused the game before leaving the room.
"Chica!" He called, waiting for the pitter-patter of the dog's paws as she came towards him. But he heard nothing, making his eyebrows furrow. Why wasn't she coming? He continued through the house, looking around for his pooch, but he couldn't find her anywhere.
When he finally made it to the entryway to the front door, he stopped cold. Chica was lying on her side, her golden coat matted with the blood flowing out of her side, her eyes closed. The pool of crimson blood around her body had stained the carpet by the door, and the ever growing amount was slowly creeping across the floor towards her owner's feet.
Mark made a noise in the back of his throat and Chica's eyes opened just enough to see him standing there. She whined, a soft noise he could barely hear. She went still after that, her eyes forever remaining barely open and revealing how much pain she was in at her death.
Mark fell to his knees, making blood fly into the air, and the tears now streaming out of his eyes like a waterfall fell onto his dog's dead body. He was reaching out to her when he saw the feet of the person that was standing on the rug at the front door. He could see the end of a long knifeーalso covered in the red color that was everywhere at this pointーin the person's hand. Sudden anger filled him and he jumped to his feet, ready to attack the killer, when he froze.
"Mark, hi," you said, eyes showing shock at seeing him. Then you smiled. "You ready for our walk today?"
Mark awoke with a start, eyes wide and frantic. He didn't waste a moment in getting out of bed and searching for his beloved dog. After he'd left the room and heard Chica's paws tap against the floor he remembered she was sleeping on top of the covers in his bed beside him.
He dropped onto one knee and scratched behind her ears while looking her over, making sure she had no injuries. He shivered at the idea of finding any, but to his relief, she was perfectly alright. She just poked his nose with her own, confused why he woke up so suddenly and ran out of the room.
Mark picked her up and brought her with him as he returned to his room, shutting and locking the door after him. After he had settled down once more and Chica was curled into a ball on top of him, he thought about what he just witnessed.
It was a nightmare, a very vivid one, but it wasn't like nightmares were uncommon for him. But you were in it, and the you in the dream sounded just like the real you. It unnerved him to the point where he couldn't sleep the rest of the night, but he couldn't understand why this particular dream had this effect.
First, he thought it was because of Chica's death. He would be depressed if she ever did die, but that couldn't be why. Second, he imagined it might be because of the guilt he felt while the dream played out. He could've stopped Chica's death, if only he wasn't so caught up in making videos he would've been able to prevent it. But that wasn't it.
Maybe...it was you. With a jolt, he realized that that was it. It was you. It was the way you did it so casually, just murdered his dog without a care in the world, with no reason for it. You just simply brushed off finding you murdered his Chica and mentioned the two of your plans the next day like it would still happen.
You wouldn't really kill his dog....would you?
