"You know, I can't dance even if I tried." Jessica said, laughing with the fizzy drink in her hand as she was lead to main part of the house. Where the music blasted the loudest and also where she was sure she'd end up with a hearing defect.
Grant held her hand tightly, but not too tight, just to make sure he wouldn't lose her in the mass of sweaty bodies. He took Jessica's drink from her hand, put it on a nearby table and grabbed both her hands.
"Anyone can dance. Just some are better than others."
Jessica huffed, "Well if there were a pyramid to show the levels of dance I would be at the very bottom of that said pyramid. You know below the lowest level."
"It doesn't matter, just relax." He said, grabbing hold of her shoulders and looking deeply into her brown eyes.
She slowed her breaths and listened to the music. She allowed her body to suck up it's beat and reflect with the rhythm of her dancing body to the crowd that at first she thought would laugh at her strange chicken-like (or so she thought) dance moves. But they didn't seem bothered by her. They were all just enjoying themselves and she did too.
Grant smiled as he watched the girl unfold like bud in the fresh morning light to reveal a beautiful flower. Except that this flower began to bust out a few strange and amusing dance moves and soon he moved in closer towards her and they danced to the beat of the song Jessica had never known existed.
She didn't know how long it lasted (she wanted it to be forever) until they heard police sirens and saw blue lights flash in the windows.
It was fast, it was abrupt and it was random. The music had come to a halt and someone somewhere in the room shouted for everyone to run and it was then that Jessica felt Grant tug at her wrist and they, along with a lot of other party goers, left through the back gate. They were out of the house and were about to leave when Jessica remembered Linda and how she must've been looking for her and how angry she would be if she didn't find her. Jessica was about to tell Grant that they needed to turn back so that she could find her friend when a familiar car had driven past them.
It's convertible hood down with all four seats occupied. The driver was Linda who was laughing because of something someone had said. Jessica's heart plummeted and she was sure that if it could, it would drop out of her body and find its way to the Earth's core, after she had died a dramatic death of course. Something to do with boredom possibly.
The passengers, she noticed, were all girls way out of Jessica's league. They were all popular students and they were the one's who invited Linda to the party. It then hit Jessica that Linda only asked her to attend the party because she felt obligated to.
"Hey, are you okay?" Grant asked, his hand on her shoulder as he noticed how she had come to a halt in both stance and speech.
Jessica woke up from her train of thought and nodded at Grant. "We need to get going. Those police aren't going to stop until they have at least one minor and I do most certainly not want to be that person."
