Jessica had phoned her parents and spun them a story. Where she would be going to Linda's house for the night and to them it seemed all too convenient since they were on there way to a conference in another town and would only be back the afternoon the next day.

She had taken off her work coat and walked outside to where Grant waited, leaning against his car. She didn't see him at first but when she did she was sure that it was his car that made him look even hotter than she thought. He opened the door to the passenger seat and let her in. Such a gentleman, she thought.

They drove and drove, not knowing where to go and they didn't speak either. Both were afraid of breaking the fragile bond that was regaining its strength, bit by bit. Until he stopped at an intersection and he stared at her and she stared ahead, oblivious to him watching her. Her mind on what she could paint next and where to put it in her room.

She turned to Grant and saw him watching her.

"What?" She asked with a small smile.

"Nothing." He said, his tone laced with nonchalance but he had a smile that mirrored hers.

He reached over and opened the car drawer, his grew wider as he retrieved a CD by Ed Sheeran and put it in the CD player. Jessica scoffed and folded her arms looking out the window at nothing in particular.

"You don't like Ed?"

"I didn't say that."

"You didn't need to, that scoff of yours had "I don't like him, why are you playing this" all over it."

"Okay fine. I just don't like the way he overemphasises everything. Like," she was about to say my friend Linda when she realised she didn't know if that what she should call her, "this girl I know used to play photograph nonstop.

"I get it you keep the love you had in a photograph so that it doesn't disappear but so what, nobody cares about the photo only you do and when you break up you're the one with it and you're the one reminded that you gave your heart to someone and they gave it back in pieces."

He took his hand in hers and hooked their fingers before closing his eyes and kissing it. Ironically photograph began to play and Jessica groaned while Grant laughed.

"I can't believe I have a crush on a girl who doesn't like Ed Sheeran."

"Do you have a problem with that? Wait, what did you just say?"

"I said, I can't believe I have a crush on a girl who doesn't like Ed Sheeran."

Jessica's heart began beating on overdrive and her stomach was beginning to feel strange. She removed her hand and looked away, her face beginning to heat up.

"What are you doing Grant?" She asked, looking at her hands and then back at him with a look on her face that made him want to reveal everything that was layed on the tablet of his heart. It spoke of sadness but also peace, hope and a lot of hesitance.

"Jessica, hear me out. You might have your doubts in me and we might have met last night and yes, I might have told you about my feelings for Rosie but it wasn't real. She was the only girl who stuck around and I took it the wrong way. Jess, you might be the strangest and most conservative person and that might be different for me, I know but look, I've never felt this way about anyone ever. Not even Rosie. I really like you Jessica."

She rested her head on the headrest and turned to look at him, "You do remember that we met yesterday right?" Jessica felt the same way but she couldn't bring herself to say anything to him about it. She was scared that she'd get hurt again. She was tired of being the punchline to the joke that she only got to know at the very end. But Grant seemed genuine. Or was he really.

"Grant, I think I feel the same way. But I don't-"

She was cut off when Grant leaned over to kiss her.

Jessica kissed him back and she liked the way her mouth molded to his and the way the kiss was slow and sincere and everything she had wanted a kiss to be. She pulled away before things got out of her hand.

Grinning and taking his hand in hers, rubbing it with her thumb. While they listened to Ed Sheeran, a singer whom she might have put too much pressure on.
