The soles of her sneakers kill the living greens out of the freshly cut grass as Jessica and her friend, Linda, walk toward the house where loud and raging music continues to play. Numerous bodies litter the front lawn, some Jessica knows from her school, others not so much.

She wonders why she's even at this house party, then she remembers that it was Linda, who had bullied, more like bribed and won a pillow fight in order for her to attend the party. One hosted by a boy she didn't really fancy. Although Linda had persuaded Jessica to attend the party, she couldn't force her friend into wearing something, short and tight.

So, while Linda went in her little red number that ended approximately a ruler length above the knee along with a pair of black wedges, Jessica chose her ripped jeans along with a floral T-shirt and her trademark, grass killing, sneakers.

They walked towards the house and the closer they got, the more heavy the lump in her throat had gotten.

"I don't understand," she started, "why should we attend this stupid party anyway?"

Linda snorted and tucked a strand of her silky straightened hair behind her ear. "Because, Jess, we need to be more social. Besides, I'm here to scout." She said, moving her eyebrows suggestively in a uniformed wave; something Jessica could never master.

This time it was Jess's turn to snort, "I don't need to be social, I have you and that's just enough."

Jessica wished she could know what Linda thought, based on what she just blurted, then again Jessica wasn't bothered one bit by anyone's opinion. See, Jessica and Linda were complete opposites and so while Jessica was as awkward as an Egyptian duck, Linda on the other hand was the one who easily struck up a conversation. Jessica felt that if she could, Linda would leave her awkward arse behind for some social bimbos who didn't know what it meant to have a true friend.

That's what makes you guys a great team, her mother's words echoed in her mind, words she so casually spoke when she mentioned it to her. Maybe they were a "great team", one thing was sure though, as they walked through the door of the house where the loud music was blaring from, as they walked among the crowd of bodies, Jessica was sure that this was the life that Linda wanted to live and that she would leave Jessica behind if it meant being in that atmosphere all the time.
