"I'd love a large popcorn, M&M's and a red slush puppy." The girl said, handing Jessica money. Jessica got out the paper popcorn holder and scooped up the popcorn into the holder, she then turned to the slushy machine and with a cup poured some of it in the cup.
She placed the two treats in a holder and added the M&M's to the box, handing it to the girl and telling her to enjoy her movie. It was a long day and lucky for her, her parents allowed her to even go to work. Her mother then added that she should let them know when she would be done so that they'd pick her up.
It was all Grant's fault. Had he not been in her room, she would've at least had some of her freedom (the little she had anyway).
Though, the rush of the people at the movies wasn't as suffocating as it normally was, she felt like she was needed. It gave her an excuse to be out of the house and away from her parents who tried to control every stage of her life.
A group came on, laughing loudly and when she looked over at them, she noticed that one of those in the group was Grant.
She met his eyes and smiled his way though he didn't return it, instead he turned to look at the girl who had came with them. She had smooth tanned skin and short black hair with a supermodel's body (aka, gorgeous legs and the flat stomach) and a pretty face. She guessed that by the way he looked at her, she was Rosie.
She looked to her loyal and jovial friend Clifford for help, though he seemed preoccupied with other customers and she felt herself wanting to dissolve in the tiled floor with each step that brought them near to her.
The knotty feeling returned and she hoped that he would be the same as he was the day before. They reached the counter with the girl she thought was Rosie's elbow linked at his. He met her eye but didn't say anything instead he looked up to the board that had all the treats on and looked back at her and they all said what they wanted.
He felt like a jerk for acting as if he didn't know her and he could see she wasn't taking it well by the stunned look in her eyes.
"What would you guys like?" She asked and everyone answered.
"Hey, aren't you the girl who was at that party yesterday?" A boy asked in amusement. He had smooth caramel skin with a buzzed cut.
"Didn't know you worked here," he said, turning to his friends, Grant included, "you had to see her, looking like a lost puppy looking for her bone. Did you find it?" He said, making woof woof sounds.
Jessica's blood boiled, she felt like throwing the slushy in her hand at his face for how stupid he and his pathetic comment was. She hated people like him, those with an inflated ego and she was beginning to dislike Grant as well for not speaking up for her and for wasting his creative and unique soul on these people.
Meanwhile, Grant felt like he should've spoke up for her, even while Rosie sneakily giggled at the way Lyle was making ridicule of her.
"Well, if you're that interested in my lost bone, why don't you go and look for it you insentive and pathetic twit." Jessica said, handing them their treats and adding with a fake smile, "that'll be R350 thank you."
