Clary and Jace were in bed, lying next to each other, relaxing after the exhausting day that was watching Stephen and Brianna.
"Do you think Izzy's okay?" Clary asked Jace. "She hasn't come out of her room for a few days. I'm getting a little worried."
"I wouldn't be," Jace said. "I passed by their door earlier with Stephen and, let's just say, what I heard, wasn't meant for a child's ears."
"Already?" Clary asked. "Isn't she still recovering? I thought she was supposed to be on bed rest."
"Well, I think they're on the bed. . ." Jace trailed off.
Clary rolled her eyes, a small chuckle escaping her lips that soon turned into a yawn. She shifted a little and got comfortable against Jace's side and closed her eyes, ready to fall asleep, but Jace apparently had other ideas as he started to place soft kisses along the base of her neck.
Clary cracked an eye open. "What are you doing?" she asked.
"What does it look like I'm doing?" Jace asked, sliding his hand around her waist to her back and slipping his fingers ever so slightly under her shirt, stroking her skin with just the right amount of pressure to elicit a sigh of pleasure from Clary.
"I thought you were tired?" Clary asked.
"I seem to be suddenly reenergized," he said, his fingers making their way further up her shirt.
Clary was quite tired, but the way Jace's fingers were caressing her body felt so good, she didn't want him to stop. But then again, sleep felt good too. Before she could decided whether she was reenergized or not, Alec burst into their room.
"Guys- oh sorry," Alec apologized, seeing what position they were in.
"It's okay," Jace sighed, taking his hand out from under Clary's shirt. "Do you need something?"
"Yeah, I need you guys to come to the Library," Alec said. "Dad's back from Idris."
Jace sat upright. "What did he say? Will the Clave help?"
"I don't know, I rushed to get you guys before he could say anything," Alec said.
"Okay, did you get Izzy?" Jace asked, standing up and pulling on the shirt he discarded when he went to bed.
"No, do you think I should?" Alec asked. "I don't want to stress her-"
"Alec," Jace cut his parabatai off mid-sentence. "She'll want to hear what Robert has to say."
"But she's still recovering," Alec said worriedly.
"Trust me, based on what I heard earlier, I think she's recovered plenty," Jace said.
Alec furrowed his eyebrows. "What?"
"Never mind," Clary said, not wanting to traumatize Alec with a discussion about Izzy's activities.
"Do you want me to get her?" Clary asked Alec.
"No, that's all right, I'll do it," Alec said, leaving to get his sister and witness a scene that would likely traumatize him forever.
"Poor Alec," Jace chuckled. "Well, at least this time they won't be in his room."
Clary cocked her head to the side, looking at Jace confusedly.
"Nevermind."
-
"The Clave won't help," Robert said.
"What?!" Jace exclaimed, outraged.
"They refuse to help," Robert said. "They said the situation isn't serious enough for them to send, and I quote, "Shadowhunters that could be put to better use elsewhere.""
