Jace watched as the two men advanced towards him. When they were close enough, he sprung into action. He kicked one back and dealt with the other one before turning and cutting the throat of the one he kicked back. Jace did it so quickly, they didn't even have time to blink.

His eyes immediately went to Clary to make sure that she was still unharmed.

Then his eyes went to Victor. The bastard was smirking!

"You are not a disappointment," Victor said. "We could really use someone like you. Why don't you join us? If you do, your friends won't get hurt."

"I would rather slit my throat," Jace spat.

Victor sighed. "That's a shame. Well, I guess we'll just have to hurt your beloved." He raised a blade dangerously close to Clary's face.

Jace tried to form a plan in his head, but Clary was already standing up and head butting Victor, causing him to drop the blade.

Victor flinched, but recovered quickly. He brought his hand up and hit her square across the chest, sending her flying towards the wall.

Clary groaned, clutching her stomach and struggled to stand up, her head spinning.

Once she gained back her vision, she could see Jace and Victor fighting hand to hand combat since they were honorable and didn't fight with weapons or whatever.

Men and their honor. Clary rolled her eyes.

She went over to the blade Victor dropped without either of them noticing, and sneaked up behind Victor.

Victor saw a shadow hover over him, making him look up. Clary brought the blade down in a perfect arc. Victor moved just in time for it to miss anything vital, but it still hit him.

He groaned as the blade came into contact with the side of his stomach.

Jace went to punch Victor, but Victor, seeing this coming, quickly sidestepped it and dashed for the door.

Jace started to run after him, but glanced back at Clary quickly.

"I'm fine, go!" she said, although she was clutching her stomach.

"I'll unchain Izzy," Clary said, knowing that Jace wouldn't leave her if she was alone.

Jace nodded and ran after Victor.

He saw him at the end of the hall, taking a left, but when he rounded the corner, Victor was waiting for him. Victor punched Jace in the neck, making him choke and stagger back.

This gave Victor and the warlock behind him enough time to open a portal and disappear.

Jace tried to follow them, but when he couldn't make it before the portal closed, he punched the wall in frustration and kicked it a couple times for good measure before walking back to the the girls.

"He got away," Jace grumbled.

"What?" Izzy asked.

"He had a warlock there to help him escape with a portal. I should have killed him when we were fighting, but he's stronger than I thought," Jace said.

"I'm sorry!" Clary started crying.

"Hey, it's not your fault," Jace said, kneeling down next to her, comforting her.

"No, it is my fault. I gave him a strength rune. He said if I didn't, he'd kill Izzy," she sobbed. "It's my fault he got away. It's my fault you're hurt."

"Shh, shh, it's all right," Jace said, rubbing her back soothingly.

"Are you okay?" Clary asked once she recovered from her sobbing, seeing Jace's injured arm, his recently damaged hand and the cuts and bruises all over his body.
