Jace panicked. He hoped that scream hadn't come from Clary or Izzy.

He heard someone whimper behind him, making him whip around. He turned just in time to see Rebecca fall to the ground, a blade lodged in her thigh.

He looked around for the attacker and saw a group of men. One had no weapon in his hand, so Jace guessed he was the one who threw the knife.

Everyone seemed to register what happened at the same time as they all started fighting at the same time.

Jace lunged at the attacker and sliced his throat open, before moving onto another guy and stabbing him in the stomach. As he was pulling out his blade, he heard his parabatai shout his name.

Before he could turn around and see what Alec was shouting about, an arrow whizzed past his head, narrowly missing him, and found its target in a man's head, right behind Jace.

Jace nodded in thanks to Alec quickly and went to finish off the rest of them.

-

"Should we keep one of them hostage?" Alec asked, having the last one of them at arrow-point.

"I'd rather die than be a hostage," the man spit.

Alec and Jace looked at each other. "Hostage it is," they agreed.

Alec and Jace each took one of his arms and pulled him up, setting him against a wall.

"What should we do with the bodies?" Alec asked, looking around at the bodies that surrounded them. There were at least a couple dozen.

"Leave them," Jace said, rubbing away the trail of blood from the cut on his cheek.

"Can you?" he asked Alec, gesturing to his face.

Alec took out his stele and drew a iratze to heal Jace's cheek before looking at the gash in Jace's arm. "I don't think an iratze is going to fix that."

Magnus looked at Jace's arm. "This is going to sting," he warned.

A green fire sparked in his fingers and he trailed it over Jace's arm, earning a grunt of pain from Jace. He then proceeded to take a bottle of a clear liquid and poured some on the cut. Finally, he took out a roll of bandages from his bag and wrapped Jace's arm.

"Thanks," Jace muttered, watching as the bandages on his arm slowly turned red, already soaked from his blood.

"You're welcome. Don't put pressure on it, and it should heal soon. But Jace?" Magnus asked, waiting for the blond boy to look at him. "We're probably going to have to rest up before we continue."

Jace started to protest, but Magnus held up a hand. "I know you want to find Clary and Izzy, and we do too, but Simon's about to pass out, Rebecca can barely walk, I'm drained and you aren't in the best shape either. I suggest that we rest up for tonight, and first thing tomorrow, we'll start looking for the girls again."

"Okay." Jace nodded, realizing that the warlock was right as he took in sight of his injured team.

Magnus made some blankets appear and lay down.

Alec and Jace walked over to their hostage - who's name they still hadn't learned, and probably never would - and tied him up, knocking him out for good measure.

"I'll keep watch," Jace offered.

"No, you need your rest, Max and I'll keep watch. We're the ones that aren't injured," Alec said.

Normally, Jace would protest, but before he could, he yawned, making him realize that he was actually really tired.

"Okay. Wake me if anything happens," he said, walking over to an empty spot on the blankets.

Alec nodded, and left to sit by Max.

Jace yawned again, got comfortable - well, as comfortable as you could get on a concrete floor and a thin blanket - and closed his eyes.

When Alec looked over and saw that his parabatai was asleep, he picked up a blanket and draped it over him.

"Don't worry," he said in a whisper. "We'll find them."
