Chapter 8 – Your ass is perfectly lined up with my face, and I’m enjoying it
On Sunday night I found myself wondering down the stairs looking for something to drink. I held my phone out using it as a flashlight as I looked around. It was nearly 2am now and I’ve been lying in my bed for several hours unable to sleep. I was honestly terrified to go to school tomorrow, I was afraid to face Summer after what she did to me, and then what I did to her.
I pushed the doors of the kitchen open and stepped inside shining my flashlight everywhere I looked. Then I saw a figure sitting at the table and I let out a shriek as I jumped back. I grabbed the nearest weapon which happened to be a spatula.
“What are you gonna do, spank me to death?” Ashton’s voice echoed in the silent night.
I shined my flashlight at him and he squinted shielding his eyes. “Oh my god, Ashton. You scared the crap out of me!”
“No, you scared the crap out of yourself. I was just here minding my own business…”
“Well aren’t you just hilarious,” I sarcastically laughed. “What are you doing up?”
“I should ask you the same question,” Ashton raised his eyebrows at me.
“I asked first,” I defended.
“My reason is probably the same as yours, couldn’t sleep.” He quirked an eyebrow as if to ask me if he was right; I nodded. “I thought so, come take a seat next to your big brother.”
I froze. That was a stab to the heart right there. I’ve always thought Ashton and I would be more than just friends, and I’m not talking about brother and sister! I was hoping for a relationship with him but I guess all my hopes of that were out the window now.
Taking the seat next to him Ashton pushed his hot chocolate towards me. “Want some?” he asked. I shook my head. “So what is on Alex’s mind tonight?” Ashton asked genuinely curious.
I contemplated on telling him the truth about the real reason I was afraid to go to school, I settled on telling him half the truth. “Well after spilling strawberry shortcake all over her and ‘ruining her career’ I don’t think she’ll be happy with me,” I grimaced quoting Summer’s words.
“Mhmm, I understand,” Ashton said thinking this over. “You could avoid her?”
“For the rest of my life?” I questioned.
“Good point, just punch her!” he suggested.
For a second I thought he was kidding so I let out a laugh, then I saw the seriousness on his face. “What?” I muttered raising my eyebrows.
“If she annoys you, punch her,” he shrugged as if it were nothing.
“If you haven’t noticed girls don’t usually punch each other,” I told him.
“Hey, I’m just giving you advice!” he grinned winking at me. I was glad it was dark because I blushed.
I stood up from the chair and leaned against the counter. “I’m going back to bed,” I told him trying to avoid further conversation about stupid Summer.
“Wait,” he said and I turned around looking over at him. “Alex, what really happened last week?”
I stopped. My hands began shaking and my heart started pounding like crazy. “What?” I whispered so quietly I was surprised he heard it.
“Alex, I can read body language. You didn’t save some kid from some bullies in the street that is the worst excuse I’ve ever heard,” Ashton told me. He stood up setting his mug in the sink before stepping closer to me.
