Chapter 14 – Honey, why is there a dent in our frying pan?

I shot up off the couch and nearly smacked heads with my older brother. Colin started laughing, “I’ve never seen you get up so fast in my life,” he commented and I felt like hitting him.

Ashton’s eyes snapped open at the sudden movement and he sat up as well. He glanced at me, then at Colin who was giving him the ‘did you fuck my sister last night?’ look (apparently there’s a look for that…)

“Colin,” Ashton trailed off. “Nothing happened I swear.” He stood up slightly pushing me off him. Honestly it felt like rejection but I ignored that thought in my head.

“Alex?” Colin questioned me. I’ve lied to some people but he knows I would never lie to him and even if I did he would pick it up right away.

“Nothing happened,” I repeated Ashton’s words. “We were talking and fell asleep on the couch, that’s all that happened.”

“If you fucked her, I swear to god you’ll be six feet under,” Colin whispered quite loudly to Ashton. Ashton only gave a small nod, hopefully later when Colin has slept off his hangover he’d forget about this.

Ashton swore when Colin reached up and touched the bruise on his forehead. “How’d you get that?”

Ashton looked over at me before replying. “Got into a fight and they hit me with a frying pan at the party.”

I was glad when Ashton said that. I didn’t want anyone to know what I had done, honestly it was kind of embarrassing.

A couple hours later after we had all gone back to sleep again (in our own beds) we were rudely awakened by the sound of the rest of my family coming home. The beginning of the movie Cars was exactly how I liked to be woken up, not to mention I still didn’t feel very well, but at the same time I felt better than I did last night.

I laid in my bed for half an hour trying to get back to sleep again but eventually I gave up and rolled out of bed to take a shower. I hadn’t showered since before I got sick so it felt nice to stand under the hot water for twenty minutes or so.

When I came downstairs wearing fresh pajama pants and a hoodie I found Ashton sitting on the couch, with my mom next to him and she was taking his temperature. “You have the same thing Alex does,” Mom announced.

Ashton’s eyes met mine for a second before they went back on my mom. “Flu?” he asked and she nodded.

“Hopefully it’ll only last a few days.”

My dad came out of the kitchen holding the frying pan, a confused look on his face as he stared at it. “Honey, why is there a dent in our frying pan?”

Mom stood up to examine the frying pan while I sat down in-between Luke and Ashton who were both watching Cars, however I think Ashton was listening to my parents’ conversation about the frying pan.

“I was just going to make some eggs for breakfast and when I looked at the frying pan there was a giant dent in the middle of it,” Dad was explaining. I held back my laugh and I could tell Ashton was too.

“Guys what happened to the frying pan?” Mom asked Ashton and me.

I looked over at my mother and swallowed the lump in my throat. “I kind of hit Ashton in the head with a frying pan last night.”

My parents looked stunned before they looked over at Ashton. “Oh so that’s where you got the bruise on your head,” Dad nodded as if it all made sense.
