Chapter 12 – There’s no way I’m spending an extra hour with him!
The next morning was a long one, my head was pounding and the boys kept goofing around when they were supposed to be helping my mom and I clean up. There was literally cake everywhere you looked, chocolate, vanilla, and a bunch of icing was stuck to the tables and house. Oddly enough we didn’t get very much in the pool; however the stuff we did get in the pool was completely disgusting looking. Ashton was stuck digging the cake out of the pool with the net, Colin was in charge of cleaning up the ground along with my dad and my mom and I were cleaning up the garbage.
“This is terrible!” Ashton kept complaining.
“Yeah, well look at all this cake shit I have to pick up,” Colin muttered back. “No offence, Mom, you know I love your cake,” he added as an afterthought.
Mom rolled her eyes. “Uh huh,” she replied shaking her head. Mom squeezed her eyes shut for a second and then shook her head.
“You ok?” I asked her.
Her eyes snapped open and she looked at me. “What? No, I’m fine!” she exclaimed.
I glanced over at my dad who had a panicked look on his face, but I could tell he was trying to hide it. Something was very wrong, I just couldn’t figure out what. I was about to ask my parents what was going on but was interrupted by the sound of Luke bursting through the back door of the house. He jumped off the deck and stopped abruptly when he saw all the cake everywhere.
“Ugh,” was the first thing that came out of his mouth.
I laughed at his expression. “Hey, Luke I’ll give you ten bucks if you clean the pool for me!” Ashton bargained.
“Mom? Is ten bucks a lot?” he asked her.
Mom smiled at him. “Honey, I think watching him suffer would be more fun,” she explained. A smirk grew on Luke’s face and he nodded in agreement.
I stopped picking up bottles to shoot my mom a look that only she knew. She grinned back giving me the thumbs up. Man, do I love my mom! I kept thinking.
The next few hours were devoted to cleaning our yard, and by the time we came inside it was nearly supper time. My mom decided to prepare chicken burgers since she didn’t feel like cooking at all, I wouldn’t blame her.
Our supper was full of laughs about what had happened the night before. And I was grateful that Ashton hadn’t realized that Summer and I were actually kind of arguing about him when she tried to drown me at my birthday party. That would’ve been embarrassing.
The following morning I woke to the sound of Colin’s alarm clock, I was probably going to shoot him if I woke up to it one more time. Grumpily I headed out of my room and down the stairs thinking no one would be awake. However, when I got downstairs, Ashton sat in the kitchen drinking coffee. I stopped and turned around, I looked like complete crap and there was no way I was going to go in there looking like a zombie.
“Alex?” Ashton called.
“Yes?” I called hiding outside the door of the kitchen.
“What are you doing?” he asked.
“Going to get dressed,” I said. He didn’t answer so I started heading towards the stairs to go change until the kitchen door swung open and Ashton stood there in all his shirtless glory. “Uh…” I mumbled.
His dark blue eyes met mine before flicking down to what I was wearing, polka dotted shorts and a tank top, what made it worse was the fact that I hadn’t shaved in a little while so my legs were hairy.
