Alec didn't really need you. You figured it out very fast, when the 'help' he wanted you to give him was just your opinion on the appearance on different gadgets you didn't even know what could be used for. When you asked him about their function, he became so excited that he started to ramble on for hours with so many technical terms that only other experts would be able to understand what he was on about. It felt like he just enjoyed some company and the fact that he could talk to another person, instead of himself. Not many people visited the workshop and those who did had giving him a message in advance, so you could hide in the attic while they were there. Normally it was just people that wanted his to repair their watches or even jewellery. It was a shame to see his skills be used for something that simple, when he was able to create big machinery and make gadgets for the assassins. After a few days being with Alec, relaxing and drinking tea, he suddenly came running into the living room.
"You might get to the attic. We have a visitor you might not enjoy the company of." He explained with a worried expression while there was someone obviously knocking on the door in the hall. You hurried and got up from the armchair and took your crutches. You got up the first set of stairs much faster than you should with a bad foot but you hurried to the next flight of stairs and caught the maid in her black and white evening attire on the way.
"The visitor cannot know that I'm here, okay? So if they ask you about me, you know nothing." You said looking at the half frightened maid.
"Of course, Miss." She said and curtsied before heading downstairs to open the door. You took some light steps, to make sure that whoever it was, wouldn't hear you. You stopped at the top of the stairs and sat down. The maid opened the door and you had to be quiet. Walking down the hall to your room and lock the door after you would be too risky. You sat and listened to the rumbling downstairs and let your assassin senses take over for the first time in a long time.
"How is it going with the project I helped you with, Alec?" The voice belonged to Evie. Per reflex you held your hand over your mouth to cover up any sound of your breathing. She was a skilled assassin and you were sure she could feel someone there. Hopefully she thought that it was just the maid.
"I'm almost done actually. I'll show you in the workshop. This way miss Frye." Said Alec but you heard only one pair of feet moving. Evie didn't go after him.
"I'm sorry but that have to be another time, Mr Bell. I am here for a important matter and I thought that maybe you could help me." Evie said in a lower voice, but because of your assassin senses you were still able to hear it all clearly.
"What's the matter, miss Frye?" Alec copied Evie's low voice.
"I'm looking for a woman names y/n y/l/n. She's a... former musical performer so you may know her but also a member of the brotherhood. She has been hurt very badly in combat but left her sickbed. We are hoping to see her in a good condition, but we haven't been able to find her for days." Evie sounded really worried and she was shuffling around like she wasn't able to stand still for long. There was a long while where they we both silent and you know that Evie was analysing Alec.
"I ermh... I will keep an eye on the roads outside my house and I'll come right to ya if I see her." Alec said in a pitch higher than normal. He was such a bad liar! You didn't need to be a trained assassin to know that he was hiding something. There was silent again after he said that until Evie sighed.
"Alec, I can tell you know something and I don't blame her if she told you to keep her whereabouts secret. But if you are in contact with her in any way, would you please ask her to come back to the hideout? Or at least make sure she stays alive and out of sight from the Blighters? They are still looking for her." Evie knew. She may even have known that you were in the house, but as soon she said that, she apparently walked to the door again.
