It was finally Saturday, which meant babysitting day. I practically froze before the mirror, as I thought about my "helping hand" for the day. My usual babysitter attire was a simple t-shirt and a pair of khaki shorts, but today, was not a usual day.
Without me realizing, twenty minutes had passed me by as I stood in front of my wardrobe, undecided. It was only after the insides of the wardrobe were completely upside down and downside up, that I made up my mind.
Denim suspender overalls was perfect for the occasion. Casual, but far from boring. I let down my hair, freeing it for the weekend, and gave it a quick brush with my fingers.
My hands worked swiftly with my make-up, applying just enough to cover the pores but without looking overdone. I flashed a smile across my face, checking for any possible deposit stuck between the corners of my teeth.
And then it struck me: who was I trying to impress?
Shaking my head, I hoped for the thoughts to go away. Looking down at my watch, it told me that there were only five minutes left until my "helping hand" arrives to pick me up.
I hastened my steps and closed the apartment door behind me.
Once I was down on the main street, a familiar SUV was already in sight. As its driver lowered his sunglasses down to the tip of his nose, he gave me a quick wave with his hands.
Instinctively, I made a dash to his carriage, without a care for my outer appearance.
Opening the car door, I panted as I met his eyes, "I'm so sorry for being la--"
"You're not late. I'm the one who's early," he cut me off apologetically, "I should have stuck to the time, and you wouldn't have had to run so dangerously."
"That's fine, Sik," I shrugged casually as I sat next to Hyungsik. Turning slightly to my right to pull the shoulder strap across my body, I realized a piece of tissue was softly tracing my forehead just before I could grasp the seat belt at the metal latch.
My shoulders tensed as his face came perilously near.
"You're sweating even from the short run," Hyungsik remarked with guilt.
That may have been the reason why I was sweating, but there was another one for why I am sweating.
"Hmm... thanks, I'll wipe them off myself," I clear my throat as I grabbed the tissue from his hands.
Hyungsik placed his hands back at the steering wheel as he adjusted himself in his seat. It seemed that he has already set up the GPS with the home address of Hyewon unnie, and with a few clicks, we began our drive.
"I brought something for Hana, by the way," Hyungsik started with an uncertain tone, "I hope she likes Poppy?"
"Hug Time Poppy?" My tongue rolled off with ease, all too familiar with the doll merchandise from Hyungsik's recent Trolls promotion.
"Are you a fan of the animation?"
Yes. I am a fan of yours, and naturally a fan of the animation with your dubbing.
"Well, Hana has been asking why her hair isn't pink to begin with..." I replied with a chuckle, "I'm sure she'll love it."
Hyungsik let out a breath of relief, his grin becoming wide, "That's good, because I don't want to get on her wrong side on our first meeting."
First meeting? Is he saying there's gonna be a second one? Why he is counting?
"You won't get on her wrong side, I can reassure you of that. Hyewon unnie is already on your side anyways," I reassured.
