As a child you would wait, and watch from far away.
Lance grinned as the galra ship came into view.
But you always knew that you'd be the one that worked while they all play.
Lance was determined to do this. As scared as he was, if he took down this ship, the empire would have no chance at recovery. Ever.
In youth you'd lay awake at night and scheme
He was ready. He had trained for this. It was going to be hard, but he had to take down this ship. He had to. If he didn't, Zarkon would kill his friends. He would order their deaths, and Lance wouldn't be able to stop it. They would die a thousand galaxies away from the head of the empire and all hope would be lost. Lance had to do this.
Of all the things that you would change, but it was just a dream!
Lance was given a chance, a chance to change the universe. Sure, his own life may be taken in the process, but he had to help. He had to take down this ship. So he snuck in, armed only with his Bayard and a big bag if explosives.
Here we are, don't turn away now, we are the warriors that built this town.
It didn't take long for the guards to spot him, but he didn't care. He shot them down as silently and quickly as possible. He couldn't jeopardize the mission. He was the only hope. For everyone. The life of every creature in the universe rested on his shoulders.
Here we are, don't turn away now, we are the warriors that built this town from dust.
The blue paladin placed down the first explosive. He took a deep breath and kept going. All around the ship, his bombs were placed stealthily and carefully. He had to do this, he had to do this, he had to do this.
We'll come, when you will have to rise above the best and prove yourself.
Lance made his way to the engine room. He placed the largest explosive there, and was about to go back to his ship to detonate them all when a guard rushed in.
Your spirit never dies!
Lance growled and shot at him, but the guard was too quick. The galra knocked his gun out of his hands and tried to push him to the floor, but Lance wouldn't let himself fail. Not now. Even if it meant going down with the ship, he was going to take it down.
Farewell, I've gone to take my throne above.
Lance knew what the right thing to do was. Even if it meant never forming Voltron with his friends, even if it meant not seeing Keith again, or Shiro or Hunk or Coran or Pidge or Allura or any of them... He had to detonate the bombs. He had to take down the ship.
He had to die.
But don't weep for me, 'cause this will be the labor of my love.
He took a deep breath, and pulled the trigger on the detonator.
...
Across the universe, a shiver went down Keith's spine.
