The plan was to meet back at the lake before the anthem. That will be starting any moment. I have know ideal where I am and I don't care. It's probably better that I don't go back. It was time to leave anyway.
Once the anthem starts Cato will know that I'm not dead and that I ran away. I stopped next to a tree and slumped to the ground. I'm too tired and no longer care.
I could hear footsteps coming towards me. The trident slipped from my hands and I closed my eyes as the anthem started. I can't see Marvel's face. He saved me twice on the first day and I couldn't save him. If he hadn't saved me I would already be back home in a wooden box.
Tears spilled down my face as arms grabbed my shoulders. I was pulled against someone's chest and they ran their fingers through my hair. He let me good and I slumped back against the tree and opened my eyes to blue eyes. Cato.
"What happened?" Clove asked appearing behind Cato.
I told them everything. Finding Rue, Marvel began killed, that Katniss was the one to blow up the supplies and the she has a bow and used that to kill Marvel. Told them that I stuck her with my ax and then she ran away.
Only seven of us left. The Capitol will be interviewing our families now. Finnick will be being interviewed. I miss Finnick. He probably is so mad with me right now.
Clove walked into the woods and Cato helped me up and wrapped his arms around my waist and buried his head in my neck.
"I thought I lost you. You are never leaving my side again. Come now. Clove and I found a cave by the lake. It is pretty well hidden given that I fell into it. We will be staying there for the night." He said and kissed me.
I was too tired and too miserable to fight with him. He lead me through the woods and too the lake. Once at the cave trumpets sounded and a voice boomed around the arena.
"There has been a rule change! Two tributes from the same district can win the games!" Claudius Templesmith says then repeated the change.
Two tributes can win! Only if they are from the same district. This rule only applies to 2 and 12. Cato and Clove can win!
The announcement gave me a burst of adrenaline and I turned and sprinted into the woods. Clove likes me but, she'll kill me if it means that she wins. I can't be with them no longer, no matter how much it pains me to leave Cato.
I really do love him and know that he won't hurt me or kill me. But Clove will in order to survive and I knew all along that their was no way that Cato and I could be together.
"Brook!" Cato shouted and I knew he was mad.
I said I wouldn't run away. His footsteps were close behind me and I turned into a cluster of trees and bushes in the hopes that I would lose him. Branches wiped me in the face and I tumbled into a clearing. The cornucopia was twenty feet in front of me.
"Brook!"
I pushed myself up and sprint away from the cornucopia. Once back in the woods I began to slow. My adrenaline was gone and my tiredness hit me. I stopped to rest against a tree and heard the footsteps. I slumped to the ground and curled into a ball as Cato stopped next to me.
~~~~~~~
I woke to Cato snoring. We were back at the cave and someone put me in the sleeping bag. I slowly untangled myself from the bag and gathered my things to leave. Cato never woke.
I got to the opening when Clove dropped down from outside with a knife pointed at me. I stepped back as she came towards me.
"You can't leave. I promised Cato, against my will that I won't let you leave. Now lay back down." She said and waved the knife in my direction.
"Please. Just tell him that you didn't see me leave. Please, I can't stay."
"I want you to leave to. But Cato won't be happy with me. So, laid down. Now!"
Cato stirred and his sleep but didn't wake up. Clove wave the knife again and I sat back down. She took my backpack and went back outside.
I signed and closed my eyes. Tears started to fall down my cheeks.
