The fire started out of nowhere. We were walking slowly through the forest looking for others, when all of a sudden a fire was baring down on our backs. Cato grabbed my hand and we took away running between the trees.

The black smoke made it hard to see and to breath. My hand lost Cato's as my body began to slow. I'm too weak to run. With the little sleep, hurt shoulder, that's not healing all because of Glimmer.

The rest of the pack disappeared in the black smoke. I could feel the heat behind me. A burning tree fell in my path and it was too big for me to jump over. I could make it if I wanted to be set on fire.

The only place I could go was down the hill. I'll lose the career pack. It probably was a good time to leave though.

I squeezed my eyes shut to get rid of the stinging, but that just caused me to trip over a log. I tumbled down the hill. I tried to avoid hitting my shoulder or impaling myself with the trident.

Once at the bottom I slammed my right shoulder into a rock and it caused me to send the trident flying.

Agony consumed me and black spots covered my vision. I rolled away from the rock and tried to sit up. A horrible sound escaped me. My sore throat with the little oxygen, I couldn't breath.

My vision cleared and I watch the fire pillaging its way down the hill. This is it. I going to die, being burned alive.

I turned my head and spied my trident through the black smoke, which is surprising given it is black. The prongs were in the dirt and it angled into the direction of a path. Finnick had the same colored trident is his games.

I gritted my teeth and pulled myself to a tree. I used the tree to pull myself up. Holding my right arm to my chest, to elevate some of the pain, I got to the trident and picked it up.

"Brook?"

Was someone calling my name? Cato? Is the smoke making me to hallucinate? The fire was too close and too loud to hear correctly. I followed the path my trident was pointing to and started to jog. That is all I could handle with the pain and not being able to breath.

I clutched the trident to my side as I jogged. The thing save me live. It show me a path away from the fire. As I ran the voice became louder. It must be Cato.

The voice was distorted, probably because of breathing in all the smoke. But it has to be Cato. I used the voice as a guide to find him. I still didn't have enough oxygen to call back. As I ran Finnick's necklace bounced against my chest.

"Brook!"

I crushed threw a bush and landed in a pond. I could hear the others coming behind me. But I wasn't the only one in the pond. The girl from 12, Katniss was on the other side of the pond. From where I stood I could see the nasty burn on her leg.

"Cato." I tried to yell. My voice sounded horrible.

"Brook!"

He crushed threw the brush and Katniss took off, but not before Cato saw her. The others were close behind him as he took off after Katniss. Peeta stopped next to me and grabbed my hand.

He lead me to the tree that the careers stood around. I looked up to see Katniss sitting and Cato climbing after her. His too big to climb, the branches would snap under his weight.

"Here let me re-warp your shoulder." Peeta said helping me take my coat off.

Once he was done, Glimmer was in the tree with her bow. Cato had fallen and was now cursing at the base of the tree. I flexed my shoulder and winced. The pain was not as bad as before. Peeta put some kind of cream on it, that soothed the pain.

The branches started breaking under Glimmer and she stopped to notch her bow. She sucks at the bow and will just waste arrows. I pulled the ax out of my belt and dropped it on the ground next to my discarded coat. Glimmer shot the arrow and missed. This sent Cato into another round of cursing.

"Thank you." Katniss said taunting Cato.

I began to climb the tree and soon past Glimmer who glared at me, but she then started to climb back down. I was always good at climbing and fast. As a kid our father took Finnick and I with him to work, since our mother died and nobody was around to watch us. The kids were allowed to climb the rigging to help pull the sails down. Also it was a game to go to a secret part of the beach the was really deep and see who could climb the highest on the tree and jump in the water. I always won, until I got sick.

Katniss had started to move farther up the tree. Once I made it to where she was before I stopped to catch my breath, and to give my shoulder a rest. I was soaked in sweat. My shirt clung to my body. I leaned my head back on the trunk and saw the nest.

Tracker Jackers!

I could see them crawling around the nest. I could continue to climb, Katniss hasn't noticed them yet. They haven't noticed her yet. But if I keep going she could knock it down and then I be for sure killed by their venom. I know Katniss isn't stupid.

I reached forward to a small branch. I'm just going to break a branch and then climb back down. Make it seem that my body is too heavy and if I fall from this height, I'll die. The branch snapped and I slid down and caught at a bigger branch.

"Enough. Came back down. We'll just wait her out." Cato yelled.

Once back down on the ground Cato ordered someone to gather firewood and him and I grabbed the backpacks and went back to the lake we found Katniss in.
