Shouldn't come back

I got up the next morning & got ready to head back to L.A. with Marissa. Nick did stop by to see me, but he didn't want to chance coming in & giving away the fact that we were together. We stayed on the porch & it could have been my imagination, but he seemed nervous.

"Thanks for coming to see me." I said as I watched Nick shift on his feet, staring up at the bright sunlight.

"Of course. I told you I would." He replied, glancing at me.

"When are you coming back to L.A.?" I asked, closing my front door & reaching for his hand.

Nick looked down at our hands when mine touched his. He put his hand in his pocket, quickly. "Someone could see us." He mumbled.

"No one can see us, unless they come out the door & I would hear them." I said in a quiet voice, feeling a little sad by his reaction.

Nick sighed, then pressed his lips together. "I think I'll go back to L.A. tomorrow."

"Is Olivia's stuff moved out?"

"No idea." Nick wasn't looking at me. He looked at the flowers, the ground, the trees, the sky, anything to avoid looking at me.

"What is wrong with you?" I asked, my tone angry now, making him, finally, look at me.

"Nothing."

I rolled my eyes. "Why were you sweet to me when we were naked, when you wanted to make love and now you're being a douchebag to me?" My voice was low, almost a whisper, so no one could hear me.

"I'm not being a... " Nick started to say, then clamped his mouth shut & took a deep breath. "I'm sorry, Demi. I'm just having a bad day."

"Fine. Well, I need to finish packing. Hope your day gets better." I turned to head into the house & Nick grabbed my shirt.

"Wait." He said, quickly. I turned around, crossing my arms. "I'm really sorry. I woke up this morning to a message from Olivia & I think my sugar is low. Don't go yet." Nick smiled, faintly & I couldn't stay mad.

I let out a breath, returning his smile. "Fine. I have a few minutes. Tell me about the message from Olivia."

"I don't want to spend my few minutes that I have with you, talking about Olivia. How about a kiss?" Nick moved closer to me, leaning his head down a little, smiling at me.

"Someone could see us." I smirked & he rolled his eyes in response. He glanced around for a moment, then leaned in even further. His lips met mine & we kissed for several minutes, before I pulled away from him. "I need to go. Call me when you get to L.A." I said, before turning away from him. I gave him a quick smile before I closed the door on his stunned face. I wanted to make sure he knew he couldn't be a douchebag to me anymore. I wasn't his beck & call girl. I leaned on the door for a moment, smiling to myself. I threw the door open again & Nick was still standing on the stoop. His expression was surprise, mixed with happiness as I closed the door & stood beside him. "I just wanted one more kiss." I went up on my toes to kiss him, softly, letting my lips linger for a few minutes.

"I'll miss you." Nick said as our lips parted.

"I hope so." I kissed him quick, once more, then disappeared into the house. I heard him chuckle as I closed the door.

I was back in L.A. for a few hours, when I heard from Nick. He texted me telling me he missed me, then told me he'd call me the next day when he got back to L.A. I didn't hear from him at all the next day. I was busy unpacking & doing laundry, so I didn't worry too much. When I didn't hear from him the day after that, I got a little pissed. I decided to call him & when he didn't answer, I drove by his house. I let myself in with his code & when I pulled into the drive, I saw his car & another I didn't recognize. I didn't want to interrupt, so I left. I didn't hear from him that evening, so the next morning I drove to his house again. I saw the same car in the driveway, so now I was curious. I had stopped to get Starbucks, so when I rang his doorbell, I had an excuse for being in the neighborhood.
