I held my breath as I approached Olivia, silently praying in my head. I was pregnant & didn't want to have to kick her ass if she was a bitch to me right now. I know, when I had this baby, though, I would have no problem kicking her ass. In fact, I would thoroughly enjoy it.
Olivia rolled her eyes as I approached, so I greeted her with a smile. "Olivia, I'm going to go down to the station to give them my statement. You want to ride with me to give them your statement?"
"My statement about what?" Olivia asked, grinning with her forehead, wrinkled.
"That you saw Wilmer attacking me when you & Nick came in the room." I could feel my blood boiling.
Olivia tilted her head, innocently, bringing her finger up to her chin. "I didn't see anything."
"Are you serious? Come on. You know you heard me scream & saw Wilmer on top of me."
She took a step toward me, peering down at me, in amusement. "I may have seen something kinda like that." I sighed with relief, then my blood boiled over when she opened her mouth to say more. "I can tell the police what I saw...... if you break up with Nick."
Yep, I would hit her one day. I didn't care when or where, but it was getting done. Right now, I was keeping my cool, taking in deep breaths. "You're bat shit crazy if you think that's happening. Fuck you, Olivia & don't forget that Karma is a bitch, just like you." I spat at her, then turned on my heel to walk away. I found Joe & made him take me to the hospital first.
I waited at the hospital for a while, until the doctors came & gave me & Joe the news that Wilmer had ingested PCP & that's probably what made him go unconscious, not Nick hitting him. He did have a broken nose & two black eyes, but so far, Nick didn't almost kill him. Maybe Nick would be released soon. After we got all the details at the hospital, Joe & I headed to the police station. They wouldn't let us see Nick, so we left. Joe talked to their lawyer, when we got back to his place & he was heading to the police station first thing in the morning. I couldn't sleep. I stayed up all night long, thinking about Nick & what had happened. I was thankful, so far, Olivia hadn't told anyone that I was pregnant at least.
I rode to the station with Joe & their lawyer, Mr. Parker, who was talking to whoever was in charge of releasing people. They let me go in the interrogation room to see Nick. He was leaning on his arm, eyes closed, when I went in. The sound of the door slamming shut made him jump, opening his eyes. There were bags under his eyes & his short hair was disheveled.
I sat down in the chair across from him. "Oh, babe. Did they keep you in here all night?"
Nick cleared his throat. "All night long." He replied in a soft, sad tone. "Were you up all night?" He tried to show me a smile.
"All night long." I returned the smile, reaching for his hand. "I'm so sorry." I choked out.
"Don't be. None of this is your fault."
I closed my eyes, feeling the tears burning. "Did you tell them that we're dating or that I'm pregnant?"
Nick shook his head. "No. Not unless I have to." His eyes met mine & I finally saw how bloodshot they were. He looked horrible & I never thought that could be possible. "How's Wilmer?" He asked, through gritted teeth.
"He's going to be fine. Turns out he was slipped PCP or he took it at some point, so that's why he wasn't himself. He wasn't unconscious because of you. You gave him a couple of black eyes & a broken nose, but he was out cold because of the drug."
Nick rubbed his face with his hand & took a deep breath, then let it out. "They'll probably still get me on assault charges." He bowed his head, like he was defeated.
"I tried to get Olivia to make a statement, but that isn't happening. Mr. Parker seems to think you'll be fine without it." I was trying to sound hopeful.
"Olivia refused?" Nick asked, his brow wrinkled in confusion.
"She said she would if I broke up with you."
He let out a chuckle, shaking his head in disbelief. "Did you tell her to go to hell?"
I laughed out loud. "I was a little more colorful in my wording, but it was the same concept." I shrugged my shoulders & shook my head. "We don't need her damn statement. With my statement & the hospital records & the fact that you have no prior record, Mr. Parker thinks you'll be out of here in no time, with no charges filed." I smiled, proudly at him.
"I hope you're right." Nick tried to smile, but I think he was too exhausted. I held his hand with both of mine. "Are you feeling okay?"
I nodded. "I'm fine."
"You should go to the doctor. Wilmer was crushing you."
I made a face of absurdity. "I have a doctor appointment later this week, anyway. I'm fine. The baby is fine."
Nick's eyebrows lifted in concern. "What's the appointment for?"
"My first ultrasound."
Nick let out a breath. "I wish I could go."
"You can." I grinned at him.
Nick opened his mouth to speak just as the door opened & an officer came in. Nick dropped my hand, quickly. Mr. Parker followed the officer in, smiling. I prayed they were letting Nick go. "You're free to go, Mr. Jonas. No charges are being filed at this time. If Mr. Valderama wants to pursue charges when he's able, he can do so."
I breathed a sigh of relief as the officer unfastened Nick's wrist from the handcuff. He stood up & I couldn't help but to hug him. We didn't speak much on the way back to Joe's. When we came in the front door, Phil was standing there, waiting, a look of anger on his face.
"You two are still together, aren't you?" Phil asked, his arms crossed, his mouth in a pissed off pout.
Nick let out an exhausted grunt, shoulders slumping, head hanging. "Oh my God. I am so sick of people trying to dictate my life." Nick took a few steps to Phil, watching him, closely. "I just spent all night long in a tiny cold room, sitting at a table in a very uncomfortable chair. Now, I just want to go take a hot shower, then lay in bed, holding my girlfriend, until I fall asleep & not have to think about the world. So yes, Demi & I are still together. We're together & we're staying together. We will keep us & the baby a secret for as long as we can. That's all we can do, Phil. Is that good enough for you?" Nick's voice was firm, but a little frightening. I think besides being tired, his blood sugar was low.
Phil nodded, looking over at me. "You didn't have to lie & sneak around."
"It seemed a lot easier than trying to argue with you or having you dictate our relationship. Or worse yet, acting like a hall monitor, watching our every move. I'm sorry we lied to you, but I just didn't want you all up in our business." Nick took a deep breath & let it out. "I'll call you tomorrow. I'm exhausted, so I need to go get some sleep, if you don't mind."
Phil shook his head, stepping out of Nick's way. Nick turned to me & grabbed my hand & led me upstairs. When we got to the bedroom, I sucked in my breath. Nick turned around before we stepped into the room. "Wait. Let's go to one of the other rooms." Nick had his hands on my arms.
"I'll be fine." I insisted.
He shook his head, rapidly. "No. Go to the other room. I'm going to grab our stuff." He kissed my forehead, then went into the room. I listened to him & went into the room across the hall. Thank God, Joe had several spare rooms. Nick got our stuff, then we took a shower together before we climbed into bed, ready to close our eyes & forget the last 24 hours. His arms wrapped around me, from behind as he snuggled up to my back. "I love you." He murmured into my hair, before we both fell asleep.
