Never been hurt

Nick & I had to sneak to the doctor's office, Nick going through the back entrance with his bodyguard, while I went in the front with Marissa. Papz weren't around, but we didn't want anyone who recognized us to take a photo of us together or even worse, a video. We had to be careful, since we were hiding the fact that we were a couple, especially since people knew I was pregnant. It was a top news story now, everyone trying to break the news as to who the father of my baby was.

I went into the exam room on my own & Nick was snuck in minutes later. He seemed incredibly nervous as he stood in the room, hands in his pockets, looking around. His eyes were wide as he looked at the pictures all over the wall. I laughed at him & he smiled, shyly, shrugging his shoulders. "What? Never been in one of these kinds of doctor's offices." He explained coming to stand beside the table. I just smiled at him, reaching for his hand.

My doctor came in a moment later, along with a nurse, who both smiled at Nick, clearly recognizing him & probably smiling because they saw the interview where he denied being the father. They introduced themselves to Nick, then Dr. Jacobs listened for the heartbeat. I watched Nick's face as she did that & he stared at my stomach, the tiny hint of a smile on his lips. I watched him take a deep breath & close his eyes, for a moment, when Dr. Jacobs said, "Strong heartbeat."

The nurse pulled the ultrasound machine closer to the exam table & they squirted the stuff on my stomach. Nick watched with a quiet intensity, taking it all in. His face was serious as he watched, closely, everything they did. When Dr. Jacobs put the wand on my stomach, Nick's eyes went up to the screen that showed our baby. I looked at the screen for a moment, but I wanted to watch Nick's face. I held his hand in my mine & I could feel his pulse racing on his wrist. I wasn't sure he was even blinking, like he didn't want to miss one single second of our baby. Dr. Jacobs did her thing, checking all the important vitals she needed. She commented that everything looked great & the baby was growing perfectly, making Nick's face relax a little as he glanced at me, smiling. He pulled his hand out of his pocket & put his arm on the table over my head, to lean down so our faces were closer. His attention went back to the monitor.

"Do you want to know the baby's sex?" Dr. Jacobs asked, looking at both of us. Nick & I both nodded, smiling. She moved the wand around to the side of my tiny bump. I could feel it push into me, slightly. "Looks like a girl." She finally said.

Nick's face lit up like I hadn't seen in a long time, as he looked down at me. I got tears in my eyes seeing him look so happy about the fact that we were having a girl. I closed my eyes when I felt Nick's lips on my forehead. Neither of us said anything else as my doctor finished up. She handed me some photos & Nick grabbed them first, making me laugh. He stared at them & continued to stare at them as I listened to the doctor talk.

Nick snuck out when the doctor left, after giving me a quick kiss & telling me he would meet me down in the car. We dropped Marissa off at her place first, then headed to my apartment. As Mike drove us back to my place, Nick kept one arm around me, while the other hand held the photos of our baby. He was enamored already with our baby girl & my heart was soaring. "Are we going to tell our parents?" I asked as we got closer to my apartment.

"At some point. Or we can keep it to ourselves." Nick said, still looking at the photo in his hand. His gaze ventured up to my face & he smiled, proudly. "We're having a girl." I nodded & kissed him.

Nick hardly talked after we got to my place. We were spending the weekend together, relaxing since the following Tuesday, we were heading out on my tour. I was in the kitchen, later, putting our takeout food on plates for us. I felt Nick come up behind me & wrap his arms around my waist, then kiss my cheek. His hands held my baby bump, lovingly. "I hope she looks just like you." He murmured into my ear.
