"Y/N, sunshine, we need to get going", Dan's voice lulled you gently from your sleep."Mmph".
A low chuckle.
"That's what Phil said".
"It's a rather relatable sound", you mumbled.
You saw Dan smile as you peeked from beneath an eyelid.
He had changed for the day and was looking impeccable as ever— stripey shirt of blue and white, black skinny jeans.
"Do we really have to get up?" you asked.
"You say that like I've not gotten out of bed yet".
Attempting to slip your feet off of the bed so as to stand on the floor, you realised that someone had wrapped you cosily in a blanket.
Dan?
You tossed the blanket to the side and walked to where Dan stood at the foot of the bed.
You reached up and fingered the single curl he had pushed back with his other locks, tugging it down so that it hung over his forehead.
"There. Perfect".
Dan sighed. "As if I wasn't already".
You batted his arm. "Arrogance is your vice, my friend".
"It's not a vice if it's the truth".
You made a face, then barred yourself in the bathroom.
You turned on the shower, leaping from the water's reach as quickly as was humanly possible; you weren't ready for any cold water just yet. It reminded you of the leap and the fall down, down, down into the black Thames...
No, hot water, really hot water, was best.
No bleak memories came from hot water.

Half an hour later, you had all gathered by the car, loading your re-packed bags and settling.
As Dodie pulled onto the motorway once more, your stomach rumbled.
"Shit", you swore. "I didn't eat breakfast—"
Then a filled paper bag hit you square on the nose and Phil called,
"Think fast!" and tossed you an apple.
"I hope you like nutella-filled croissants", Dan, who'd thrown the bag, grinned.
"Thanks, and, ow", you said indignantly.
"How much can a croissant hurt?" Dan said.
"You'd be surprised. Want to know, pretty-boy?"
He was still a moment at the nickname, then shook his head. "I'll pass, sunshine".
"Hey!" Phil said. "I thought I was sunshine!"
"And you thought your mum loved you", Dan said monotonely. Phil frowned. Dan laughed and nudged Phil, "You're angel-bean, dear Philip".
Satisfied, Phil smiled and nodded.
Louise tutted, Liam paid no attention— he was checking some work emails— and Evan gave a laugh.
Eileen had switched seats with Evan so that she now sat paired with Dodie. Eileen had fallen asleep and Dodie was now driving with one hand, her other resting on Eileen's knee.
