Chapter 3: The Snide and the Freaked
"When are they coming back?" Mason exclaims apprehensively after Lucas tells him the news.
"Mom said soon. Which could mean today or tomorrow. I'm not sure." Lucas answers, trying to remain calm and not worry as much. He worried for an hour and it got him nowhere.
Mason freaks out, whispering hastily at his brother. "What are we supposed to do? They can't know-"
"I know they can't know!" Lucas hisses out just as quietly. "And I don't have a clue what to do about this." He admits.
Mason leans away from him a bit, wondering if Lucas is about to snap or not. With the way Mason has been acting, he wouldn't be surprised if Lucas did freak out from this stress.
Lucas takes in a deep breath and closes his eyes, making sure he's calm before thinking about this rationally. "We just need to hide it from them. We can figure it out." He reassures the both of them.
"Right. It'll be fine." Mason says aloud, not really talking to his brother anymore.
The bell rings for homeroom so they head off to their next class.

Lucas sits down with his lunch tray next to Lena and across from Mason. Before he can take a bite of his food, his phone vibrates in his pocket.
"What is it?" Mason asks immediately, hearing the noise even in the loud cafeteria.
Lucas shoots him a glare as he grabs his phone. "I'll know when I check my phone." Mason glances back at his tray quickly in embarrassment.
Lucas opens the text when he sees it's from his mom. "We may not make it home for a few days. Our flight was delayed but we're trying to work it out."
"They won't be home for a few days." He announces with a grin, happy to be free of his parents for a few more days. That way he can be himself at home for a little while longer.
Mason looks up with a huge grin just as Jerica asks, "Who won't be home? Who are you talking about?"
The twins glance at each other in dismay. "I thought you told her." Mason says in confusion.
"I said I would, but then you said you were going to." Lucas answers with a frown.
"No, I didn't." Mason argues with his brother.
Jerica jumps in, still confused as to what they were talking about. "Would someone tell me what you guys were supposed to tell me!"
Lucas and Mason simultaneously force their attention to Jerica. Lucas decides to tell her because he knows the other boy isn't going to do it. "Mom and Dad are coming home."
"Really? That's um... good? I missed them but it's not like I couldn't live without them. Cause I think we did fine... Oh." She stops her rambling when realization hits.
"This isn't good for you two, is it?" She questions, gesturing to her brothers. "I can easily hide my newest abilities, but you two..." Her lips stretch into a thin, smug smile that she doesn't attempt to hide. "You two are gonna have a few problems."
