Chapter 12: From Bad To Worse By Mr. Woltz

"Stop." Lucas demands, holding his hand out and annoying Adrian further.

The vampire smacks his hand away. "What? We're almost to your house."

"I have to make sure my parents aren't home." The werewolf answers, preoccupied with tilting his head a bit to listen intently to the noises in his house.

"Alright, they're not home. We can go in. But-" Mr. Woltz doesn't stop to listen to what else Lucas has to say, rushing forward to go inside the house and get on with this so he can get away from the drama sooner.

"Wait! My siblings and cousin are home." Lucas tries to warn him, but Adrian is the only vampire to listen to him.

They quickly follow after Mr. Woltz until they're gathered in the backyard.

"There! Did you see that?" Cade exclaims to his friends excitedly.

"See what? It's just Lucas and two guys." Kevin observes, exasperation filling his voice since they've been sitting behind some bushes in the dirt for over an hour.

"They entered the back yard from the woods." Cade replies while pointing to the specified area behind the house that they're spying on from across the street.

They've been waiting for more proof that there's something up with the Hallow family, something supernatural.

"Did you not see how fast they ran into the backyard? One second they weren't there and the next second they were!" Cade tells his friends happily.

It proves that he was right, and now they have two more people to add to the list of supernaturals.

"I didn't see them running, Cade. I thought they were walking because I wasn't paying attention." James says honestly with a shrug.

"Both of you, pay attention!" Cade demands as they turn their attention back to the house.

Lucas gets the spare key from the fake rock in the backyard, feeling uneasy that the vampires now know how to get into his house, but seeing no way around it since he doesn't have his key with him.

As soon as he opens the door, he's bombarded by his brother's questions. "There you are, Lucas! Where were you? What took you so long to get home?"

Lucas stares blankly at him for a moment. It doesn't slip his attention that Mason never asked what happened to him. It's possible that he already knows that he can fully shift into a wolf.
