Date 12-18-17Sorry this chapter is a week later than it should've been! I've been writing essays and studying for finals. Plus this chapter and chapter 10 of Saving Them (my other original I'm working on at the moment) had to be planned and thought out more than usual.
So here's the chapter! I hope you enjoy :)

Chapter 10: Saving the Unexpected
Adrian can sense that he and Mr. Woltz are getting closer to Lucas because he's beginning to pick up a stronger scent trail.
"Remember, we're going to get him to turn back into his human form. We're not here to kill him." He reminds the older vampire.
"Yeah, yeah. I know." Mr. Woltz answers grudgingly.
"I'm serious." He insists as they run along. "Whether I like it or not, which I don't, that kid's a part of my life now. I've lost too many people in the past month because of hunters. I'm not willing to lose another one."
That finally seems to get through to Mr. Woltz, because he lost the people Adrian spoke of as well. And he is definitely still angry about that. "I understand, Adrian. I won't kill him."

When they get so close to Lucas that his scent is extremely strong and they feel like they're about to catch up, Adrian notices something's off. "Stop." He hisses to Mr. Woltz, grabbing his arm to pull them both to a harsh stop.
"What? Why? We've almost caught up." Mr. Woltz argues, clearly annoyed and ready to get Lucas and go back to Cain.
"Exactly. We've almost caught up because he isn't moving. Something's wrong." Adrian assesses the situation, contemplating what to do.
"Well, let's go see what trouble he's gotten himself into. I hear him growling." Mr. Woltz announces his intentions right before taking off at supernatural speeds.
Adrian can also hear a low warning growl, hidden behind the sound of the treetops rustling in the wind and the crunch of animal paws over leaves.
He figures that Lucas is only a couple of miles away. Listening closer for any heartbeats, he hears none while running beside Mr. Woltz. It's quiet in the quaint Kansas woods as the two vampires storm along, probably disturbing all of the animals into a frightened quiet state.
The silence is broken when a girl's scream pierces the air, then the vampires are running as fast as possible to get there in time.
Adrian still doesn't hear any heartbeats besides the one of a wolf, which must be Lucas, so that means it's another vampire or a zombie that they're about to encounter.

Owen hurries to the guest room he's staying in as soon as they get back to the house, leaving Jerica and Mason to answer to their parents. But they don't get questioned about why they're late getting home from school.
"Where's Lucas at? He's usually the first one through the door." Mrs. Hallow comments as she exits the kitchen to greet her kids.
