Chapter 6: Exhibited Secrets
As Mason sits talking happily with Monique, he gets a sudden strange sensation in his stomach and immediately thinks of Lucas.
"What's wrong?" Monique inquires when she notices he's zoning out. He always pays attention to their conversations.
"What?" Mason spouts in a slight panic, blinking to direct his mind back to the present situation. "Nothing's wrong! I mean, I'm worried about Lucas.
He hates lying to Monique, but he can't tell her a secret that isn't his to tell. Even if this is his crush and he wants to be completely honest with her.
Mason recognizes that feeling as the same one he felt during the last full moon. He was with Adrian and Lena, going to rescue Lucas from the vampire hunters that had stupidly mistaken the guy for a vampire. Lucas had transformed into a wolf before his brother did, and Mason had somehow sensed it.
He's surprised that he remembers that. It was small and insignificant then, but now it's proving useful because Lucas isn't telling Mason what's going on anymore.
If Lucas wants to keep his newest ability a secret, then Mason won't stop him. But he does plan on confronting his brother about this issue later.

Lena doesn't get up from her spot on the damp grass on the football field until Lucas, the light brown wolf in front of her, flees the scene.
She doesn't bother calling out to him to come back. She doesn't know what to think after seeing Lucas shapeshift without a full moon. How could he keep such a big secret to himself? Why not tell his girlfriend, who risked her life to save him a few weeks before?
Lena forces herself to get up and assess the damage to her clothes. Her jeans are soaked and muddy from falling on the ground. There's no way she can show up to class looking like this and live it down.
She remembers then that she has a spare change of clothes in her car. She'll probably be late for first hour, but at least she'll look presentable. And after that, she needs to have a chat with Adrian.

"Where are you going? Homeroom's the other way." Jerica points out when Lena turns to head for the cafeteria, standing at their lockers just after their fourth hour class.
"I have to go talk to Ivie. I'll go to class in a few minutes." Lena lies, immediately feeling guilty for doing that to her best friend. The best friend that she's supposed to be hanging out with more because they've been growing apart. Ever since Lena started dating Lucas.
She hurries away before Jerica can say anything more, going in search of Adrian. Even though she's furious with Lucas for keeping such a huge secret, she's still going to talk to Adrian like he asked her to.
Fortunately, Adrian is sitting at a cafeteria table alone. Lena looks around upon arrival to see everyone who has lunch with him is in line for lunch. She has to hurry to get him away from everyone. Lucas was very clear with his instructions. Only Adrian can know about what Lucas can do now.
