Surprise, I'm back!

This chapter is the reason I haven't updated in a while.

I decided to re-read this book and finish this chapter before writing anything else.

I don't have a set schedule for updates anymore, but I'll be updating at least once a week, hopefully. Usually it should be twice a week.

So here it is! Enjoy :)

Chapter 20: Teens and Their Egotistical Ways

Lucas was 99% sure that the dinner with his girlfriend and family would be a disaster, but the 1% seemed to prevail this time around.

"Your parents were nice. We had no reason to worry." Lena remarks with a self satisfied look, sitting herself down on the lawn chair next to him.

"I guess so." He answers a bit dazedly. "Honestly, I was so nervous I don't remember most of it."

Lena laughs at her boyfriend, setting her hand on his reassuringly. "Like I said, everything was fine. And besides, the pressure was on me. I'm lucky that your parents don't care that I don't have a job and that I'm younger than you."

"Then there's also the fact that they know I've been here without their permission, but they were okay with it then because they thought I was only here to see Jerica." She adds, stressing out Lucas more than reassuring him.

Placing his head in his hands, he breathes in slowly to get a hold of his spinning thoughts. "There's so much to worry about right now. I don't get why we have to deal with this mundane issue as well, having to deal with my parents."

"I like to think that everything happens for a reason." Lena begins to say, squinting slightly to keep the setting sun out of her eyes. "But you're right. Too much is going on. We're all getting overwhelmed, you most of all."

Lena shakes her head, laughing quietly to herself. "And to think, we're all just a bunch of kids. We're not even young adults yet. The only exception is Adrian, yet he still acts like a teenager."

Lucas chuckles in agreement to that, recalling all of Adrian's ridiculous behavior. "You've got a point there."

The two stare up at the clouds in silence, their minds in two completely different places.

Lucas recalls a similar situation with them in the backyard, staring at the clouds. He had finally gotten the courage to ask Lena out.

Adrian ruined that by interrupting them and threatening Lucas to figure out who John really was, but the memory before that of the sun doing wonders to Lena's fiery hair brings a smile to his face.

Meanwhile, Lena remembers the conversation that she had with her older sister about trust in a relationship.

A slight frown pulls on her lips as she ponders exactly how she feels on the matter.

It only takes Lena a few minutes to make up her mind, but Lucas has already moved on to thinking of something much darker.

"Lucas." She calls to get his attention, her voice unintentionally coming out as barely louder than a whisper.

"Yeah?" His eyes snap over at her attentively as he clears his throat preparing himself for the worst.

He's not sure why Lena would come to dinner with his family if she was planning to break up with him, but it's a possibility. She could've just now made up her mind.
