Chapter 13: An Introverted Teenager

"How do you know this isn't important?" Mr. Woltz demands to know, furious at Adrian for interrupting his rant.

Adrian palms his forehead in annoyance. "You're holding a teenage boy hostage and screaming nonsense at him."

Mr. Woltz shakes Owen's arm, which he still has a tight grip on, while the aforementioned teenager glares at him. "Can't you sense that? There's power running through his veins." Mr. Woltz informs him through clenched teeth.

"And if you concentrate, you can tell exactly what kind of uncontrollable power he has." He adds, intriguing him enough to make him do as his sire said.

As Adrian focuses his heightened senses to pick up traces of magic and power around him, he understands what Mr. Woltz means. There is a strong power in the stranger, and the magic clearly burns inside of him at an almost uncontrollable level, which is why they could recognize it so easily.

"Who is he?" Adrian asks, causing everyone but Mr. Woltz to stare incredulously at him.

Ivie and Lena both thought that Adrian would make his sire release Owen, but he didn't even hint at that. Jerica stares suspiciously at her cousin, wondering if what the vampires said is true.

Lucas begins to stir out of unconsciousness, so Lena helps him sit up. Hopefully he doesn't have a concussion from how hard he was thrown into the tree by Mr. Woltz, but he would heal soon enough anyway.

"He's our cousin, Owen." Jerica snaps the answer angrily. "Why does it even matter? Tell the crazy guy to let him go!" She orders protectively.

But Adrian looks over at Mr. Woltz and something clicks in his head. This has to be about finding out what happened with Lucas to make him be able to shift into a wolf without a full moon.

It's because Lucas has magic in his bloodline, even though he doesn't have magic. It's enough of a spark to give him an ability he shouldn't have. It also has to do with the kind of supernatural that Owen is.

Adrian was told that their cousin was visiting, but he'd never met the kid, so he didn't sense the power. And the rest of their family hadn't learned to sense power yet. Adrian might have to teach them later.

"Did you know about this, Lucas?" Adrian asks with a scowl, furious that he didn't know about this other powerful, and extremely dangerous, supernatural in the city of Cain.

Lucas shakes his head as Lena helps him stand up, still dizzy from his collision with the tree. "I don't know what you're talking about."

"They're both crazy! Why aren't you guys doing anything? Help me!" Owen yells at them in a rage, pulling away from the one holding him hostage, wishing he could just use supernatural strength.

Jerica shoots a hateful glare around the backyard while everyone remains still. "So what if he's different? He hasn't hurt anyone." Jerica argues to the vampires. "You're the one hurting him." She points out to Mr. Woltz, still prepared to electrocute him.
