Hey everyone! Sorry that this chapter is slightly shorter than usual, but the chapter was way too long and I had to find somewhere to end it, so I split it and made the extra part the beginning of the next chapter.
For the quote above, it'd be best to re-read it after reading this chapter and think about how Owen acts to understand how it relates to this chapter.
Happy early Halloween to those of you who celebrate the spooky holiday! I most likely won't be putting a new chapter up tomorrow because I'm going to work on my Teen Wolf fanfiction tonight, so I wanted to wish you guys a happy Halloween early.
If you haven't started reading my newest story Affectivity: A Teen Wolf Fanfiction then you should go do that! I've been working really hard on it and I hope you all enjoy XD
Also for a quick warning, this chapter contains bullying, which is included in the story because it's important to the plot line for this part of the book.

Chapter 8: Number One Pet Peeve
"Jerica!" Owen calls out to her in the school hallway as she hurries to her eighth hour class. She spins around with a huff, not immediately recognizing her cousin's voice.
Upon seeing him hurrying towards her, Jerica wonders what's gotten into him. Why would Owen suddenly be sociable? Unless he needs something...
She doesn't bother to move out of the way of the students shoving past her to their next class. "Jerica." He repeats when he catches up to her. "Where's Lucas? I haven't seen him all day."
She crosses her arms in her signature annoyed move before answering in her casually rude way. "Why do you care? Last I heard, you wanted nothing to do with him."
"Well, he is my ride back to the house." Owen retorts with an eye roll, giving Jerica a run for her money with his theatrics. She narrows her eyes in response, not liking anyone who has the guts to use an eye roll against her. This kid has too much attitude.
"Lucas went home sick earlier. Mason will be driving the car, since he's the only other one with a driver's license. I assumed you'd just mysteriously disappear like you did this morning." She remarks snidely.
"And that's why you shouldn't assume things. You know what they say about assuming." Owen says over his shoulder as he leaves Jerica standing there fuming.
~*~
Owen walks home after the final bell because he doesn't feel like being anywhere near his cousins. He's never been a social person, which is one of the big reasons he hangs out with a select group of friends. Besides, he'll only have to stay here for a few weeks at most. There's no need to get close to anyone.
Only a block from the school, he starts to feel uncomfortable. Glancing around, he sees nothing threatening so he can't identify why his nerves just went on edge. A few cars just passed by, most likely students leaving the school.
He turns a corner to the next street, not very far from the house. Even though he hasn't been in town very long, he knows how to get back to his cousin's house. He's always been perfect with directions.
