Did I edit this before publishing? Hell no. I'll do it tomorrow. Plot theme thing: the start of Erdas I guess? Human Great Beasts heck yeah. Plus some British slang that I had to google.
Briggan watches the news wide-eyed. From what he was seeing (and what his 10 year old mind could understand) a space craft just crashed into the Atlantic Ocean near Africa. Not only that, it was an American space craft, the one sent up to observe life on Mars. The TV clicks shut and Briggan blinks from the sudden change in lighting.
"Mr. Briggan, shouldn't you be going to bed?" The house maid asks. Briggan glances at the clock hanging on the mantle. The time read 10:30 and that was past his regular bedtime.
"Probably," Briggan agrees yawning loudly, "the news was just interesting today."
"Ah, yes, the space craft crashing," the maid remembers leading Briggan to his room. The pass up the overally large staircase and onto the second floor.
The little boy nods, "are there aliens inside?"
The maid chuckles, "I hope not, that would cause some trouble." The maid opens the door to his room and ushers Briggan inside, "time for bed. You have school tomorrow."
"Homeschooling, there's a difference. What about mum and dad?" Briggan asks about his missing parents.
"They are very busy people, sir," the maid explains gently, "but they should be home tomorrow," at the end of her explaining, the maid shuts the door quietly and leaves Briggan alone in his room. Flopping on the bed the little boy sighs loudly before rolling over and falling asleep.

Briggan's parents weren't generally home being 'busy people' as his house staff said. He would gladly give up the large house and money to see his parents everyday.
Mr. Jones was droning on about the history of Britain and the United Kingdom and Briggan was not having a good time.
"I have a question," Briggan suddenly comments.
Mr. Jones's eyes light up at the prospect of his only student being interested in his topic, "yes?"
"What happened with the crash?"
The sudden drop of hope in Mr. Jones's eyes almost made Briggan guilty, "well, NASA and America has taken back the space craft as well as whatever is inside. That is all that has been released to public. But don't worry, we are far away from America, whatever happens there should not affect us greatly." Mr. Jones goes back to history, but Briggan interrupts again.
"Well, wouldn't it be a war issue?"
"Perhaps, and in that case, it would become an issue for us. Now, let's focus on what we are actually here to learn about."

"Aliens are complete bollocks," Finn denies hanging from the monkey bars, his brown hair sticking up weird from the gravity, "the Americans are just pulling our legs and should bugger off."
"But what if-" Briggan persists.
"That doesn't matter," Amelia interrupts braiding her blonde hair, "besides, we shouldn't care. We're 10 Briggan act like it."
"Yeah Briggan," Finn mocks, "act like a little baby."
Briggan snorts and looks at the ground kicking the sand under the swing with his feet, "fine, I guess you're right. I'm probably acting off my trolley."
Finn says something in reply, but suddenly Briggan can't hear anything. It was as if the world shifted realities, he was still on the swing, but falling off scraping his knee. Blood was coming out of the wound and he looks up to see Finn-
