He Saved Me

Chapter 33

*Throwback*

I get inside Cameron's car. As soon as we were both in, I said, "Start the car."

He immediately does and before I knew it, we were miles away from the hospital Luke was staying in.

Hours had seemed to pass by. I hadn't said a word to Cameron ever since we left the hospital nor has he. After I had calmed myself down I finally spoke.

"Where exactly are we going?" I blurted.

He cleared his throat and replied, "Oregon."

I thought about how long the distance from our home and Oregon was. Let's just say it was very far. This car ride was definitely going to take longer than a day.

A day and and a day had passed. We had finally reached our destination. The neighborhood seems quite. Not much stuff seemed to be going on here. Well, maybe because it was night time when we arrived.

"Whose house is this?" I asked.

"Mine," he replied.

I stared at him in disbelief. I mean he's gotta be kidding right?

"It's been vacant for 25 years. It was my grandparents," he explained. "Don't worry, they won't be able to find us here."

I nodded. He pulled out a key from his pocket and opened the door.

The house still had furniture but it was all covered. It was a descent looking one-story house.

Cameron had gestured me to follow him. He had led me to a room.

"This will be your room," he said.

I nodded and replied, "Thanks."

"Mary, I'm sorry. For everything. This is my fault-"

"It's not your fault Cameron. It's mine."

I saw him clenched his jaw, unable to say anything.

"Good Night," I said and closed the door.

I was still angry at him, but the truth was it was my fault. I was the one who started hanging out with him first.

But, the things Derion said. Were they true? Was Cameron really not on their side anymore?

Cameron stood outside Mary's door. Unable to move. He felt guilty. All he could about was how to make it up to her.

"Goodnight," Cameron whispered.

*Present, 7 years later*

( It was early May. The temperature was slowly rising. )

I woke up by my stupid alarm. It was 8:20am. I climbed off the bed and headed straight to the mirror.

I stared at myself while trying to calm my monster hair down.

"You look like shit," I whispered to myself.
