When I made it into New York it was around 7 in the morning. I checked into a hotel within the city to wind down a bit. I paid for a weeks stay and used the luggage cart to transport my things to the suite. I'd planned to start my search for a more permanent place to reside as soon as possible.
Once in the spacious room I took a shower and changed into more comfortable clothes. I'd been on the road for so long that all I wanted to do was relax in a comfortable bed. And that's what I planned on doing all day.
At about 6, I'd woken up from my rest feeling like a whole new person. My mind was now far away from the events that had taken place only a couple days prior.
That is until my phone rang.
I'd already blocked Daniel, so I didn't worry about it being him. When I looked at the screen and saw that it was Olivia, guilt washed over me. If not anyone else, I could have at least told her that I was leaving.
"Hello." I answered, still a little groggy from the all of the sleep that I'd just gotten.
"Hey, love muffin. Where are you? Daniel just called me crying looking for you. Everything alright with y'all?"
I let out a deep sigh. "Daniel and I aren't-"
"Hold on one second girl. My mama is getting on my nerves about this family reunion." Before I could respond, she clicked over.
Dammit.
You know what? No, Abella. You did what was best for you. She's your best friend. She's gonna understand that. I tried convincing myself.
"Sorry about that. This lady has called me twenty times about the same stuff. Like I'm not responsible or something." I just knew she was rolling her eyes on the other end of the phone.
Funny thing was, Olivia was the most irresponsible person I'd ever met. I was convinced that she'd forget her own head if it wasn't attached to her body.
"Right." I drawled out sarcastically.
She burst out laughing. "Shut up. Anyways, you wanna get lunch tomorrow? There's this Ethiopian place I've been dying to try out. And it's not too far from where you work."
I took a deep breath to try and calm my nerves. "Um... actually, I'm not in Miami anymore."
"Ugh! What country does Frisky Franky have you in this time?"
"I'm still in the states."
"Where are y-... girl, Danny is calling me again. Why are you ignoring that man?"
I rolled my eyes at the mere mention of his name. "Daniel and I aren't together anymore."
There was a pause in the other end before she started laughing. "Yeah right. Where you at so I can come get you."
"I'm not coming back. And unless you want to drive 18 hours for blind trip, be my guest."
I stood from the comfortable bed and looked around for Bear's leash. I needed to take him out for a walk since he'd been cooped up for a while.
Olivia breathed loudly through the receiver. "Belle, we've talked about this. You've gotta stop running away every time something doesn't go the way you want it to."
"Liv, you don't even understand what's going on."
"And I don't need to. Do you not realize how much shit you two have gone through together? Let's just skip all of the theatrics and go ahead and forgive him for whatever he did. You're just gonna go back to him. Hell, you've been together forever and a day."
