My plan was to sneak out as soon as I woke up the next morning because I was entirely too embarrassed to show my face after last nights events. But much to my dismay, Adrian was already up on his computer. As I got up and began moving around, he turned around and chuckled then went back to what he was doing.
"Shut it." I warned before making my way to the bathroom.
There, I brushed my teeth for the hundredth time in the past 24 hours and took another long shower. I wrapped one of the large towels around my body and pulled my hair into a messy bun on top of my head as I emerged from the steam filled bathroom.
Adrian glanced at me then did a double take. I ignored his stares and slid into the clothes that I had on the day before, then I got right back into the bed. I pulled the comforter over my head because the bright light shining in from the window was causing my head to pound relentlessly.
In that very moment I vowed to keep myself at a two drink maximum from there on out.
I wasn't laid up long before I felt Adrian shaking me to which I groaned in response.
"Come on. You need to eat something."
"I don't wanna." Just the thought of going out into the bright, noisy world didn't seem appealing by any stretch of the imagination.
For a moment I thought Adrian took heed to my wishes and decided to leave me alone while I rode out this hangover. But, that thought left as quickly as it came when I felt the covers snatch away and the cool air hit my body.
I groaned, trying to reach for the warm covers, but he'd already thrown them off of the bed completely.
"Nope. Get up." When I balled myself up he resorted to tickling the bottom of my feet, which he'd recently discovered I hated. I just knew he wasn't going to leave me alone, so I bit the bullet and got off of the bed with a scowl etched into my face.
Adrian just smirked at me then led the way out of the room and down to his awaiting car. I kept my attitude the entire ride until he parked across the street from one of my favorite restaurants, Sweet Pea.
It was a little hole in the wall that I'd frequented for years. The small soul food restaurant served gourmet quality breakfast and lunch at a reasonable price, which is why I loved it so much. Back then, I didn't have a lot of money, so when I wanted to eat out, it was usually the place I came. Sitting out in front of it brought back a nostalgic feeling and I didn't snap out of it until Adrian opened my door. He held out his hand to help me out of the car, but I just looked at it and glared at him to let him know I was still mad.
He just laughed to himself and grabbed my hand, leading me to the packed entrance. Though it was a small business, it attracted large crowds, especially around breakfast time.
After waiting for nearly twenty minutes, we were seated in a small booth near the large, front glass window. We made small talk and I made myself comfortable by kicking off my sandals and resting my legs on his lap underneath the table. He didn't mind my uncivilized gesture and even began lightly massaging my calves.
"You already know what you want?" Adrian questioned as he glanced up from the laminated menu laying on the table in front of him.
I nodded. "I've been here a million times. I always get the same thing."
"What's that?"
"Riiight there." I flipped his menu over and pointed out the strawberry cream cheese French toast on the breakfast side just as the waitress came over to take our orders.
Surprisingly, he didn't say anything about what I was planning on eating. I thought for sure he'd have something to say considering I'd eaten like a pig and drank like a fish the day before.
