"So, are you gonna try again?" Olivia questioned.
Three months had passed since the accident and things between me and Daniel had been more strained than ever. We'd both buried ourselves in our work which resulted in us barely even speaking to each other. When we did speak, the conversations were usually short and forced.
I shook my head. "No, I don't think so. It wasn't really planned the first time I got pregnant. And now we barely speak enough to even get to that point."
"Wait, what?" She exclaimed, scrunching her face. "What do you mean you barely speak?"
"I mean we're both too busy working to even acknowledge each other."
She shook her head. "No. That can't be it. The Bella and Danny I know were always all over each other. It was almost annoying."
I shrugged. "I don't know. After I lost the baby something just... switched I guess."
A waiter came over and picked up our empty plates. I put in an order for desert and even ordered one to go for Daniel. Even though we were going through a rough patch in our relationship, I always thought of him because he did the same for me.
At least he used to.
The rest of the evening was filled with laughs as I hung out with my best friend for the first time in a long while. I'd really missed her and at the end of the night I wasn't ready for our time together to end.
After months of rehab, my body had healed properly and I was able to move about as I pleased. I still got the occasional headache here and there, but they were manageable. As a result, as soon as I felt I was truly up for getting back out without too many issues I took my best friend out.
"I'll see you later, honey. Don't be ignoring me for months at a time either, or you gonna have to see these hands." She said trying to sound tough through her extremely high pitched voice.
I rolled my eyes at her before embracing her in a hug.
"Bye. I'll call you so we can hang out sometime this weekend."
"Okay." She agreed before getting into her car and driving off.
I got into my new Audi and went home as well.
My previous car was deemed damaged beyond repair due to the accident, so I was forced to buy another vehicle.
I couldn't remember what happened as far as the details of the accident, but when I watched the video footage from the traffic cameras I saw that I was t-boned from the passenger side. I had the right of way at a traffic light when the eighteen wheeler came barreling out of nowhere. After investigation, it was uncovered that the truck driver was operating the truck under the influence and his affiliating company was already preparing to settle the lawsuit I had against them. But, in all honesty, I didn't care for the money.
All the money in the world wouldn't be able to bring my child back.
When I pulled into the garage I noticed Danny's car. From the outside the house looked completely dark so I figured he was in bed.
After parking in my spot, I made my way into the house to see the light from the kitchen still on. I went to put Daniel's desert away when I spotted him sitting at the kitchen island and almost jumped out of my skin.
"I thought you were in bed." I clutched my chest.
He shook his head in response as he cradled a glass of brown liquid.
"Well, I got you some cake from Dolce." I announced, holding up the bag in my hand.
"Why? You're just gonna eat it." Had it not been for the venom behind his words, I would have laughed. But, since there was no hint of humor, I just ignored his comment and put it away.
