Epilogue
9 years later
"Momma!" A high pitched voice stood out from all of the noise in the airport. I saw a little girl hopped repeatedly from a distance. I smiled and shrieked excitedly.
"Lily!" I cooed and hugged her tightly. I kissed her cheeks and pinched it. "I missed you so much!"
"Me too!" She giggled.
I glanced up and saw Wendy with Kale's hand around her waist. "Oh, my god! It has been years since I saw you, guys!" Wendy exclaimed.
Lily is Wendy and Kale's daughter. And yes, she calls me "Momma". Wendy insisted that Lily should call me that. If you can still remember, the name Lily came from Wendy's favorite shoes. She really loved that shoes so much that she named her daughter after it. She even had it cased inside a clear glass until now. She said it was her lucky shoes.
I rolled my eyes playfully. "It's only been a year." I said.
"It seemed like several years to me. I really, really missed you." She hugged me. What the hell had been this girl doing at Miami? Working out for a bicep? Her hug knocked the air out of me.
"I can't breathe." I breathlessly said.
"Geez, don't kill my girlfriend." Jace said from behind me. He pulled me lightly and wrapped his arm around my shoulders. "Welcome back, dude." Jace and Kale did the complicated handshake thing.
"We still have a wedding to attend to." I reminded them. Wendy shrieked and squeezed my shoulders.
"I'm so excited!" She grinned.
-
Everything was magical. The lighting, decorations, everything. My heartbeat was fast. I put on a smile as I walked down the aisle.
I glanced up and caught Jace's eyes from the altar. He looked me up and down and gave me a heart-stopping smile. It made my knees go weak, causing me to almost trip on the aisle. I smiled back.
I swerved when I reached the front and turned my head back to door where the bride is. My eyes watered when I saw Alexis' tears of joy. She finally found what she deserves. She looks at me when she walked past and gives me a smile.
We patched things up right before we both graduated from high school. We decided it was too stupid to keep hating on each other over a thing that happened a long time ago. And I also missed her. I introduced her to my friends, and one guy caught her eye: it was Keith. They've been together for 8 years now. Keith proposed right after their 8th year anniversary. They chose Jace as the bestman, and me as the maid of honor.
I sighed. When is Jace gonna propose? Or is he going to? I don't even know if it's on his mind. I was so jealous at Alexis that I didn't attend their engagement party. I know it's stupid but we've been together for ten years now. I'm afraid that he got fed up with me. I mean, we have been too polite with each other lately. And that's so not Jace.
Wendy is married, Alexis is having her wedding now, and Melissa, Raiden's girlfriend, is now pregnant after they had their honeymoon last September. When will be my turn walking down the aisle? Not as a maid of honor or a bridesmaid, but as a bride, with my parents crying their eyes out, my friends giving me the smile and faces, and be one of the Carters, be one with Jace.
Alexis and Keith are saying their vows. Then it was over before I know it.
-
"I'm not hungry." I told Jace. I looked around for Wendy but she isn't anywhere to be found, so as the boys, and even Melissa, and anyone who I know. Did they leave already? Alexis and Keith were sitting on their chairs, talking to people I don't know.
"You have not eaten since this morning. You need to eat." He said. I pretended I didn't hear him and stared mindlessly at the people dancing instead. I head him sigh and scoot over. He places his hand over my mine and says, "Do you want to dance?"
My heart leaped out of my chest. Finally, he gets my signal. I pretended to think about it. He gave me a skeptical look.
"Yeah, okay." I nonchalantly replied, but inside, I was hopping with joy like a rabbit.
He led me towards the dancefloor. I placed my hands on his shoulders and his on my waist.
"Can I ask you a question?" I asked him after minutes of dancing. He mumbled a "mm-hmm" against my head. "A-are you tired of me?" My whole body tensed in suspense. He was dead quiet and I can't see his face with my head on his shoulder. He pulled away from me and turned around.
"Come on." He said without looking at me. I followed him. He is heading to the elevator of the hotel where they held the reception.
I fidgeted with the butterfly necklace he gave me not less than ten years ago. Is he too polite now not to humiliate me infront of the people? To hurt me privately?
He pushed the button of the top floor, where the rooftop is. He was quiet the whole time. His face was slightly turned away from me. I can't see if he's smiling or frowning. It made me more nervous. We reached the top floor.
Everyone was there. Not really everyone but everyone who I know and I care about: my friends and family. Even Emma and Lance, Jace's parents, are here.
"W-what is this?" I asked even though it was obvious. He is going to propose. The butterflies in my stomach was uncontrollable, or was it just that I'm hungry? Whatever it is, It was because of this.
Mom and dad were crying, although dad was trying to cover his tears by pretending to wipe a sweat. Wendy is also crying, her head on Kale's shoulder while he carries a sleeping Lily in his arms. Carra was smiling wholeheartedly. She grew up so fast, it felt like she was just five years old yesterday, and now she's fourteen.
"Chelsea, I'm not gonna give a long speech just like what cheesy douches do. I'll just summarize the speech I tried writing for almost two months now." Everyone chuckled. "Chelsea, everytime I see you, my heart beats louder than I hear yours, and knowing that your heart does the same makes me fucking happy. Your smile makes me happy, every little things you do makes me happy, even you, farting, makes me happy; next time, don't try hiding your fart from me, I still can hear it." I blushed deeply. Damn it. He did?
"You make me happy. Only you, Chelsea, and no one else." He stopped. He kneeled infront of me.
He's finally gonna do it. Oh, my God. I can't even breathe. He crouched down on the ground and lifted my dress.
"What the fuck, Jace?" Even here? He's still a pervert. He raised one finger, telling me to wait a second.
I looked down to see what he was doing. He pulled a ring from between two fake diamonds on my shoe. My shoes had fake diamond details on it, big enough that I didn't notice the ring he probably placed when I wasn't looking. I slapped my palm on my forehead and laughed.
I stared at the ring and whispered, "It's beautiful."
"You are beautiful. And you are mine." And with that, he placed the ring on my finger.
"Will you give me a full supply of happiness and say yes to my proposal?"
"Yes, you cheesy bastard."
