What have we become
Where if I say, "hi" in the break room
I make you uncomfortable
But if I say hi on the internet
You send me pictures of your legs
What have we become
Where if I ask to talk on the phone
You tell me you would rather text
What have we become
Where on the first date
You ask to go back to my place
What have we become
Where a committed
And lasting relationship
Lasts somewhere around 3 months
Or a couple dates
I feel like I don't belong here
Where everyone online lies
About their size
Their shape
Their interests
Where we have these
Conversations
That last a few days
Tops
I feel like I don't belong here
Where someone goes to the beach
To post a picture of themselves
Having fun for their Instagram
And then leaves.
What happened to us?
When did we go from being people
To shells that walk these streets
Afraid of contact
While showing the world how happy
We want them to think we are.
