An Unwelcomed Midnight Dip
On nights
like these
I’m too tired
For sleep
For these annoying
Things
Keep swimming
In my head
And exhaustion
Is tugging
Gently
At my sheets
Trying to pull me
Under
Into the subconscious
Pool
Of midnight dreams
And these things
I tell you
They keep swimming
Never tiring
Annoying as ever
For their constant
Splashes
And joyful
Laughter
Echo
From side to side
Each with its own
Technique
Backstroke
Butterfly
Doggy paddle
Froggy style
Finished off
With a cannonball
Rippling
In my head
Which no pill
Can ever still
