Waiting for a Special Invitation

"You can come in", you said.

I replied, "I'm like a vampire, I need an invitation".

You might have invited me into your house that day.

But I fear you will never let me in, emotionally.

You put up these walls

Whenever you get sad

Or have a bad day

When I want to do something to cheer you up

Or just even hold you until the bad goes away

But you are always building walls

And shutting doors

And so I sit out here

In the dark and during the day.

Tending to your garden

Leaving you stick it notes

On bathroom mirrors

Leaving you surprises

Sending you flowers

Just patiently waiting

While I tend to your garden

And watering your flowers

Hoping someday you will once again

Tell me, "You can come in"

Instead of building walls

To keep me out.
