Chapter 13

We were getting ice cream and Skylar got chocolate, she was like me and absolutely loved anything chocolate along with Riley who got chocolate brownie. I got the same as Riley, Andy got blueberry banana which was new, and Luke got a little cup of vanilla that was a complete mess all over his face. We were sitting on a bench and I was sitting next to Andy with the kids across from us and he smiled weakly at me.

"Is it good?" He asked.

"Yeah how's yours?" I asked and he put it out to me and I tried it and he smiled and kissed my forehead.

"It's good." I said.

"Yeah but you're all about your chocolate. I have never in my life seen someone love chocolate like you do." He said and I chuckled.

"Riley loves it too isn't that right sweetheart." I said and she nodded.

"Me too mommy." Skylar said.

"Hey." Andy said and he brushed his thumb underneath my lip and tilted my chin up.

"You had ice cream." He said and I nodded.

"I'm a complete mess." I said.

"You're my mess." He said and I smiled weakly.

"Luke is my mess too. Jesus bud." He said and got up and he knelt down in front of him and put his cup on the table and wiped his face. Luke pulled away from him and andy held him.

"Just let me clean you up buddy. You have it all over your hands." He said and he wiped his hands and I chuckled when Luke put his hand covered in his ice cream on andys scruff. Andy let go of him and looked up at me and chuckled and shook his head.

"It's not funny. It's sticky." He chuckled and I laughed.

"It looks like someone came on your face." I whispered against his neck as he sat back next to me and he laughed as he wiped it.

"I'm thinking about bringing the kids to the park." He said.

"Lincoln?" I heard a kid ask and he looked up at a young kid and smiled weakly and waved.

"Hey Matt." He said.

"You're not at school this week, you alright?" He asked.

"Yeah. I'm just spending time with family." He said and I got up and threw out trash and it just hurt me. It made me upset and I wasn't mad at him I was just mad in general. I hated that I couldn't fucking prevent it or stop it before happening somehow. I had no control over my body and I felt helpless. I walked back over to the table and the kid was done talking to him and he got up.

"Let's go to the park. We can watch the kids or walk with them we don't need to run around. I just feel like they should get out the house along with you." He said.

"That's fine." I said and he kissed my forehead.

"Come here buddy." He said to Luke and Luke ran to him and he grabbed his hand and I grabbed his hand so he was in between us. Skylar held andys other hand and Riley held mine as we walked back to the car. He put them in the backseat and I helped him before closing the door. I looked up at him over the car and he looked at me.

"You didn't tell your students?" I asked.

"No." He said.

"Why?" I asked.

"I'm quitting my job, you realize that right? I'll tell them when I put my two weeks in." He said.

"Andy you're not quitting your job." I said.

"Yes I am. Whether you're okay or not I'm spending time with you." He said.

"Babe you love your job." I said.

"I love you so fucking much more." He said before getting in the car and I got in. It broke my heart. I wasn't letting him quit his job and I was definitely talking to him more and talking him out of it. He didn't deserve to lose his career just because he lost me.
