39 - Mutual Feelings

   Chapter 39

   We ended up hiding the flag under a big pile of leaves due to the short amount of time we had left. Zach didn't tell anyone I punched him. I guess he felt bad but that didn't make it any better. Alex didn't look at me and Andrew was just kind of there.

   "All right remember the rock is the dividing point, now let's start," Rob yelled and I stood at the edge of the rock. Me and Andrew were guarding and Zach and Alex were in the woods running.

   Austin stood a few feet in front of me.

   "Is now a good time to talk?" he whispered with a hopeful smile. I looked down at the ground. There's a possibility he doesn't even know.

   "Um in the middle of a capture  the flag game?" I asked nervously.

   "Oh come on," he begged. He bit his lower lip and stared at me. My breath hitched. No, no, no, not the lip bite.

    "Fine  um I'll go into the woods and then a moment after you go and find me. Then we talk,"  I said and looked around to make sure no one was looking and then took off into the woods. Once I was a few yards in I stopped and waited for Austin. This was a bad idea talking late at night in the middle of the woods when I was tired and it was dark. I crossed my arms over my chest.

   A minute later I heard footsteps behind me and I turned around and saw Austin standing there.

   "Austin-," I started but I was cut off by him. He took a few steps and then leaned in quickly. I barely had enough to time to move before he was kissing me.

   I froze. This wasn't like the last time. Last time he made it clear we were only friends at the times. Last time it was small and gentle.

   This time he was foreceful. I closed my eyes and then it hit me.

   I pushed him off of me and stumbled back. I almost fell down but Austin caught me quickly.

   "What's wrong?" he asked with a hurt expression on his face. I put a hand to my lips and shook my head.

   "What's wrong?! You just... you just..." I trailed off not knowing what to say. Did he just...? Did that really just...? 

   "I kissed you. Sky told me you liked me. Oh wow she must've been messing with me. This is... um this is awkward," he stuttered.

   "Wait.. you like me?" I asked surprised. Did he just admit to liking me? Or am I dreaming? Is this freaking real?

   "Um maybe... do you like me?" he asked nervously.

   "Um I uh I don't know," I muttered quietly looking down at my hands. Really Hayden? Just tell him, he just kissed you!

   "What do you mean?"

   "What do you mean what do you mean?"

   "What?"

   "Huh?"

   "Hayden... do you have feelings for me or not?"

   I took a deep breath. 

   Yes I have feelings for you. I've been in love with you for a long time but you've never noticed. Every day when I see you it brightens my day. You have both ruined and completed my life. I've been dreaming that you might like me and hoping and dreading the day that you found out. I'm in love with you Austin Mahone I always have been.

   Tears pricked my eyes and I averted my eyes to the ground.

   Why am I crying? Why do I always cry? There's no reason to cry. Everything is perfect now. He likes me. He has feelings for me. So why am I even crying.
