   Chapter 43

I ran into the living room my face red, hot, and sweaty from letting all my emotions out on a game of basketball. At least Rob and I won though.

"Hayden, are you okay?" a voice asked behind me and I spun around quickly to see my uncle leaning against the doorframe that led into the kitchen.

"Did you buy the tickets?" I blurted out loudly. I know there was probably no chance I wasn't even sitting with Austin but I wasn't taking any chances.

   "What?"

"The plane tickets! Did you buy the plane tickets?" I asked and he gave me a weird look but nodded.

"Yes, 5:30 flight to NYC, seats 12A, 12C, and 14A. I'm going to be sitting a few seats behind you but you'll be with Sarah and some other guy next to you. Why? Is Sarah not coming?"

"No she's coming. I just, I have to go take a shower," I said quickly and ran out of the kitchen and into my room leaving my uncle there confused.  I shut my door and quickly took out my phone and called Rob.

He answered quickly because you know Rob. I just needed to know if Austin was sitting next to me or not. Hopefully Rob knew Austin's seat numbers. I am probably so overreacting but I just don't want Austin to ruin this trip for me. It takes about 4 hours in the plane to get to New York so I don't want to spend 4 hours with him. This trip is for me, Sarah, my uncle, and my dad. That's it

"Hey," he said. I could tell by his quick breaths that he was still playing basketball outside.

"Hey um by any chance do you know Austin's seat number? Just wanted to know if he was sitting next to me or not," I said nervousy tugging on the ends of my sleeves.

"Oh yeah sure I'll just tell him you wanted to know-.'"

"No!" I yelled and he paused.

"What? Why...? Wait! Do you like him?" he asked and I didn't have to see his face to know that he had a huge, wide smirk on his face.

"No...! I uh just wanted to see. So please just find out for me?" I asked trying to sound as sincere as possible. I could practically feel him roll his eyes through the phone.

"Fine, be right back," he said and I heard faint voices and footsteps through the phone as I held it nervously to my ear. After a minute, Rob started talking again.

"He said seat his mom has seat 25A and he was 12B, happy now?" he asked and I took the phone away from my ear and hung up without saying anything.

I threw my phone on the bed and gripped my hair with my hands.

"Why me?" I whispered to myself as I sunk down into my bed.

   ***

"I think you should sit next to Sarah. I just want to be alone on this trip to have time to think," I said to my uncle trying to convince him to switch seats with me. He gave me a look and then went back to washing the dishes. I groaned.

"Okay so maybe possibly Austin and I are in a fight and he's sitting next to us on the plane," I explained thinking that maybe telling him some of the truth might work. He still shook his head at me.

"If you two are fighting, it'd be even more awkward if he's sitting next to me, your uncle," he explained and I rolled my eyes.

"You used to play basketball, how about you guys talk about basketball together? No awkwardness at all," I said.
