~ Kaisee ~

I grabbed my umbrella and locked the door to the apartment. I was in desperate need for some high-quality coffee, my period had hit and the caffeine cravings were as strong as ever. I didn't care that I looked like a mess and that my hair was greasier than bad-quality pizza. I just threw on a hat to cover the horror that was my hair and my face and left.

Yeah. I'm cool.

My feet were ice cold and wet in my flip flops by the time I got to the store, a fifteen minute walk away. I carefully rubbed them off on the mat outside and hurried in.

This was maybe my favorite 'local' place here. It was a bookstore and café that served amazing Americano and had a great reading nook. It had such a homey, warm feel, it made me miss California even more......... but I loved it...

The place was mostly filled with college students, chatting quietly or ferociously typing. I'd be one of them next year...

As I stood in line, I observed them. One particular girl caught my interest. She was definitely a music student, I noticed a small treble clef tattoo on the back of her neck when she turned around and stood up. I liked her style... she seemed like she put no effort in, but she looked great...... meanwhile me when I put no effort in...

She seemed like she had it all while remaining humble.

She seemed like the person who could do eyeliner perfectly on the first try all the time.

She just seemed like that kind of person.

She seemed like the person I wanted to be.

How dramatic of me.

The line moved forward and I placed my order, "One Large Iced Americano please." I said, trying to make my voice sound as energetic as possible.

"Cash or credit?"

"Credit." I pulled out the card and swiped it.

"Um, could you try it again?" She asked.

"Sure..."

"Are you doing it the right way?"

"Of course I am!" She looked a little taken aback by my relatively loud remark and I looked down, feeling embarrassed, for a second.

"I think your card's been deactivated." She said apologetically.

"Are you serious?"

"Why would I joke?"

Cool college girl pulled down her sunglasses and stared, like most others in the store were doing already, she pulled her hair over her shoulder and giggled a little.

I looked at the saleslady for a few more seconds in disbelief... and she looked a little creeped out... fuck my freaky ass eyes...

"Excuse me." I heard a quiet voice say, coming closer and closer... until he was right next to me, "I'll pay." He smiled brightly at the lady behind the counter.

Mark Tuan. You are my goddamn savior.

I quickly stepped to the side as Mark pulled out a few bills and handed them to the lady, who looked extremely confused. Before she could put them in the register he asked, "Could you add an extra Americano to that order?"
