Chapter 2

Ronan's Point Of View

I sat outside the big room in the courthouse that my Aunt Joey was in. Probably signing my custody papers. Joetta Clovis wasn't really my Aunt. She was my mother’s best friend before she died. She was also my god-mother. I had met Aunt Joey a few times. My entire family knew and loved her. My family.

I shuddered at the memory of my crooked family. My mom Conny, 2 brothers Ross and Ryan, my sister Riley, my step-dad Nico, and step siblings: Tyler, Tessa, and Tegan. I shuddered at the fact that thanks to a hijacked plane, they were only a memory.

Thanks to the man who hijacked the plane, I was a lowly orphan. I remember the mans name in the news: Irving Di Caputè. He took away the one thing I loved and I could never forgive him.

I was pulled out of my thoughts by the opening of a door. A man in a suit and Aunt Joey walked out of the big room, shook hands and turned to me.

I hated lawyers. And judges. And court rooms. "Ronan Davidson"? Called the man in the suit.

"What"? I asked bitterly. I knew what was coming next. They were going to sit me down and explain how now my life would never be the same. They were going to explain to me how I'd be living with my god mother from now until I went to college.

Explain how everything I had come to know in 15 years was being ripped out from under me. All with a calming smile on their stupid face. A smile that was supposed to calm me down, make me think of the positive and happy side of it. Well there wasn't a "happy" side to this. My family was dead and I didn't need reminding. Nevertheless, I got THE LOOK from Aunt Joey so I decided to sound a bit nicer.

"Please will you and your Aunt follow me please"? Asked the man in the suit.

"She's not my Aunt" I grumbled. I got up and followed Aunt Joey and the Suit guy.

We sat down in the room and just as I predicted, they told me all about how I’d live with Aunt Joey blah blah blah. But they finally said something that interested me. Something about a mansion and heiress to a fortune.

“Wait, what”? I asked.

“You're Aunt Joetta was an heiress to the Midas Mansion in New Orleans.”

I was so surprised that I didn’t even correct the guy in the suit. “No way”.

“You’d better believe it kiddo” said Aunt Joey ruffling my hair. “C’mon we’d better get going if we wanna beat Traffic” she said.

Aunt Joey shook hands with the men in suits and we got into the car. I sighed and looked out the window.

I picked up my phone and turned it on. No one had texted me, surprise surprise. A  few hours later, we got to the Clovis Mansion.

After Aunt Joey showed me to my room, I sat on my bed and thought about how much I missed my family.

*BANG THUMP* I sat up and looked at the attic.

I walked out of my new room and I pulled down the staircase leading to the attic.Cautiously, I walked in.

*BANG THUMP* What the heck! There it was again. *SLAM* The attack door slammed shut. I ran to the door and started tugging on the door knob. “Help me”! “Aunt Joey, anyone ANYONE” I yelled pulling harder I slammed against the door and it busted open.

I ran out of the room scared out of my mind. I turned to look back and I swear I saw a girl standing in the attic door looking at me. I blinked and the girl was gone.

I looked harder. “Ronan. Help. Me.” I heard a voice whisper”. That did it. I ran down the stairs and into the kitchen.
