"Shyla! Over here! How does it feel to be a teen sensation?" a reporter asked as I blinked away and smiled after every flash of a camera.
"Annoying. Seriously, I need space and I can't see a darn thing. I can't go anywhere without being photographed, and I need some peace and quiet. Now if you excuse me, we are done here. Matthew! I am leaving, ten minutes ago!" I growled, over my shoulder, as I marched through the throng of reporters and crazed fans.
"Wait! Shyla! May I have your autograph?" a teen male asked me, stepping in front of me.
"Of course!" I smiled, and quickly autographed the album he had handed me.
"You are the best. When are you going to start acting?"
"Next year."
"You should start sooner. Can I call you later?"
"Sure. I guess. Talk to my manager and then we will see. Matthew, remind me I need a new producer."
"Yes, ma'am." Matthew replied, urging me toward the waiting limo.
"Okay. Bye, random dude." I smiled cheerfully as I climbed into the limo, and called my mom.
"Hey darling." my mom spoke over speakerphone.
"Ma, the event was awesome, except those annoying paparazzi and reporters. I swear, ma, I am getting more news coverage then the presidential elections. Anyway, enough about me. How's dad doing?" I asked, concerned for my father.
"How soon can you get here?"
"I am a few minutes away, why?" I asked.
"I have to tell you something in person." my mom replied before hanging up.
"Tell the driver to make a detour to the hospital that's near dad's firm." I told Matthew, absently.
"Yes." Matthew sighed, relaying the information to the driver. I spent the next few minutes of the ride in silence. Before I knew it, we were heading through the lobby of the hospital.
"Hey, I am Shyla Hyannis. I am looking for my father, Rodger Hyannis. What room is he in?" I asked the lady behind the counter.
"Yes, your mother told me to just lead you to the room blindfolded." the lady behind the desk informed me as she handed the blindfold to an attractive young man, who proceeded to blindfold me.
"Okay. Well I have superior senses. I can smell my father. My nose will lead the way." I smiled and headed off in another direction, Matthew hurrying to stay in time as the young man, stayed by my side.
"How can you smell your father?" the young man asked.
"I just can. Ugh. I think I know what my mother wanted to tell me in person." I sighed, the scent of sadness filled my nose as I lost my fathers scent.
"You can take the blindfold off now, Jason. Jason, you are to stay." my mother spoke to my left.
"Yes, your majesty." Jason replied, as the blindfold fell away and the light pricked my eyes as I dimmed my vision automatically, and looked towards the hospital bed where my father lay, changing from human to alien.
"What's happening to dad, mom? Why isn't he alive no more?" I asked, tears falling from my eyes as I fully registered what was happening, even if I didn't understand the alien part.
"Sweetie, you, your father, Jason, Matthew, and I are all aliens. We had to send you to Earth to protect you. There are bad people out there intent on killing you. You are safe on Earth. Your father had to die, in order for you to become a full princess of our race. He knew it and he allowed it to happen. Your father loved you very much, sweetheart." my mother explained to me, wiping away my tears and hugging me to her.
"Why are we aliens and not human? I don't want to be an alien princess. What if I become alienated in my kingdom, mom? They won't know me." I sighed, trying not to think about my dad.
"Your race is very strong, Princess Shyla of Batsam. I will kill you and your family one day. I promise that. I will let you grieve while I come up with a plan. You are already farther in your developement than I expected." Jason sighed, backing out with a mock bow.
"What's the plan now mom? How do the people of Batsam mourn their fallen?" I questioned, ignoring Jason, and focusing on more pressing matters.
"Now you learn. We mourn by drinking blood, hence you are too young we will do the alternative and drink grape juice." Matthew answered for my mom.
"BLOOD!?!?!" I shrieked, feeling faint already.
"He's just kidding dear. The Batsam drink grape juice. I already poured the grape juice on your father's body when he first died. I am sorry dear but we must go and start your training." my mother urged, grabbing my hand and pulling me away.
"Okay. Bye, dad." I whispered, as my mother pulled me away from that lonely hospital room with my father in it. Soon, I could no longer see him, but I had seen the nurses come and wheel him off to some other part of the hospital. Why did dad have to be the one to have died in that elevator crash but I escape unscathed?
I guess because dad hit the ground with the elevator and he threw me through the hole in the roof and had me help him up, but before he could grab my outstretched hand, the elevator collapsed. I couldn't have done anything to stop it, but I wish that I could have.
